Yet as man sees through one reason for living, another wells from the mysterious spring. It must be so, because he continues to exist.

What is your reason to be?

I have many reasons if I sit and think about it.
But most of the time just because.
Why does one need a reason to be? Why not just be?

My reason to be is my hamsters.
My being here is to look after hamsters *tucks them all under my wing* :p
I don't care what anyone says. Nothing can bring me the kind of happiness they do :o

*it was an excuse just to say the word HAMSTER again*

You're misunderstanding the concept of "being". First of all, the very nature of the universe is continuous arising and cessation. Truthfully, not even the buddha knew why things arise. He just knew that they did.

Second, you're misunderestanding the concept of "you". I'll leave with a question: Just who are you?

I don't know. Sometimes I think it is to care for my family, and sometimes I think I don't have/don't need a reason. Perhaps my reason is for my own entertainment. It's all rather muddled.

I've never understood the question about the purpose of life. Sometimes it seems like an infection given to you by someone who wants to sell you the cure.

I don't have any purpose or reason to be. I laugh, eat, sleep, cry, wash dishes and make a pretty good sweet potato pie. Why? What's the point? Because stuff is funny, I get hungry, sleepy, sad, need a clean fork and the store was out of pumpkin.

    To observe.

    To observe the observer.

And then to observe without observing.

(Don't you hate when people answer questions with paradoxes?) :)

I think that, given the Buddha himself told us what an extraordinary coincidence it is that we are born into the Human Realm, if we do need a reason to be, that reason is to be the best Human we can be.
And in having found the Triple gem, do the best we can, with the best tools we've got.

    That's an honest response, thanks.

    Best wishes.
