Looking for some guidance and help...
Hello! I am very lost. I have a rich family history in Buddhism and would like to learn about it but there are very little resources in my area and my family is not by me to teach me. I know there are various types of Buddhism and I am interested in the Tibetan and Theravadan Buddhism. But I am open to all information and resources. Thank you in advance for all and any help.

Are you kidding me!! I wish I had so many. Here is a (probably incomplete) list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Buddhist_temples#New_York
If you're interested in Tibetan and Theravada then the Namgyal Monastery, Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, The Tibet Center, and the Vajiradhammapadip Temple would be possibilities for you to look into. I would also check your phone book and do a Google search for local centres, just in case.
I would check out this Thread: http://newbuddhist.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14 for suggested readings for beginners. I would highly suggest "What the Buddha Taught" (which, conventiently, happens to be from a Theravada perspective). You can view a preview of it here: http://books.google.com/books?id=_WduwVbiLSsC&dq=what-the-buddha-taught&printsec=frontcover&source=bn&hl=en&ei=TeDoSsSJE9TolAek7vSbDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CBcQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=&f=false
This forum is basically a large FAQ geared towards beginners. Pick through it, and you'll find lots of insight and helpful information.
