Toronto suggestions

edited November 2009 in Buddhism Basics
Warm Greetings to All,

I am very new to Buddhism and have been practicing Vipassana meditation for a little over one year, which includes a formal one hour Burmese style sitting meditation, daily. In addition to that I have read a several books during my daily commute to work.

At this point I would like to join a community group to learn more and I am looking for a place in Toronto to do just that.

Does anyone have suggestions of a temple or sanga that you would recommend that I could join to learn more? I am not sure which branch of Buddhism I would like to embrace but I am open to your thoughts and suggestions.

Metta,
Don

That's really your choice entirely. They all lead to the same path, just via different teaching methods, really. Do you research on each and even go to various Sanghas to get a taste and see what suits you most.

There is a member here (username is Richard Herman) who is in Toronto and could probably give you some suggestions. :)

If you just enter "Toronto + Buddhism" in to a search engine, you will get LOTS of listings of various types of sanghas. Its a good idea to visit them, or read books that represent the different schools of Buddhism. You'll find that some resonate with you, and some don't. Its a matter of personality type, whether you prefer a more intellectual or a more experiential approach. All are goodl
