Coming Friday, I have a presentation on the topic of the bodhisattva. My teacher asked me to look into the question what the difference was between a Buddha and a bodhisattva. Could you tell me?

Well, the short explanation is that a Buddha one who has realized Bodhi (enlightenment) and a Bodhisattva is someone who strives to achieve Bodhi. Beyond that, the term Bodhisattva has been given a wider meaning, especially in the Mahayana Schools. The links provided in the previous two posts should give you a better idea of this wider meaning.
