Buddhamas?

edited December 2009 in Buddhism Basics
I'm new here and I was wondering, do buddhists celebrate during the holiday season? Forgive me if this is already on the board somewhere... I didn't see it.

Which holiday are you referring to? I celebrate the new year, setup a christmas tree at home during the Christmas time and exchange gifts etc. I live in a country where the majority are Buddhists... Everyone get together and celebrate holidays :)

    Christmas is easily celebrated:

We may deplore the commercialism of Christmas, but there is a real value in taking on the spirit of giving. We can buy toys for Santa's anonymous, go on-line and buy a goat for a third-world family. Go out of our way to help a stranger. Take the arm of a senior slipping on the icy sidewalk. As a Buddhist, the giving aspect of Christmas is most welcome.

We can cook a wonderful meal for our family and friends ... being sure to include those you know who have no family (or family in town). Cook as if the Buddha himself was coming to your table.

We can sit and read the words of Jesus in the bible ... his great teachings on compassion. And celebrate the birth of such a wise teacher.

As a Buddhist, YES, I celebrate Christmas.
