there are many styles of buddhism
the most basic & complete buddhist teaching is the noble eightfold path
the noble eightfold path has its foundation in non-harming
it then proceeds to developing inner mental peace through developing meditation
having developed some inner mental peace & clarity, the mind then can reflect on and develop acceptance of the true nature of reality
often individuals will find the style of buddhism that suits them
kind regards

is there some where to go in London ( south east )
Try google maps?
i just had to say that
Hi Ricky,
If you live in any of these areas in London you might like to try these Theravada beginners meditation classes which also include some instruction in Buddhism.

Kagyu Samye Dzong is a very nice Tibetan Buddhist centre run by really friendly people.

I personally recommend Buddhism: Plain and Simple by Steven Hagen as a solid starting point for further exploration.
