lol a turd on the floor. lesson.

edited December 2009 in Buddhism Basics
I found a turd on the floor:eek::eek::eek:,
either from my cats or my dog..
and I felt aversion to it, lol.

It made me discontent.
THEN- I realized this turd is not making me discontent, :buck:
I am making it discontent..hmmm:D

does suffering or discontent exist outside of a mind?
only a mind can suffer Duhhka?

I am not going to answer your question but I do think your question could have been a freeverse poem.

Actually, it never made you discontent, you made you discontent. And you did not make it discontent, it just is what it is.

thats what I meant- "I MADE" the turd ugly and avoidable
if i do this to a turd, the flip side is, how many things do I exaggerate..when it comes to GOOD qualities, other side of the coin.

And also how many things do I fear and have aversion to, THAT AREN'T REALLY BAD? things like DEATH, un-attachment, no self...

it blows my mind to think that I am actually a god in my own universe who can change an ugly turd- to a beautiful treasure, just by thinking it differently...

When the class was discussing using your mind to change reality by thinking about it differently, the Buddhist monk said, "But trying slamming the car door on your hand and then tell yourself it isnt real".

    car door...hand...

    pain...

if your practice is strong enough and your meditation has sunk in, the pain wont be "painful". (not to mention you would NEVER slam the door on your hand)

I've actually learned to endure certain types of physical and psychological pain through Buddhism, and honestly it helps dull that pain around 42% physical, and 90% psychological...

the physical is harder of course..but it WILL help. if you can change the percentage of an outcome by + or - 42% that's still pretty godly..
