I suggest checking out Thanissaro Bhikkhu's essay "The Problem Of Egolessness."

    Ego can be quizzical.
Self is like a person shaped cloud.
From where I stand I recognize a shape
I give that shape a name (person shape)
From where you stand you recognize a shape.
You give your shape a name (sailboat shape)
    It's just cloud.
That cloud doesn't exist on its own.
It is part of something larger.

    • Look at your car, or a friend's car, in the garage. You see a CAR.
    • Next, disassemble all the parts and place them neatly to one side.
    • Finally, look for the CAR you had seen before!
Don't take me too seriously though ... I'm only just beginning to understand anatta. :)
