Question about metaphysical connection

I do not feel the metaphysical things are important to the path. It's true that some of these things do sometimes arise as a side effect of one's practice, but they can also be a hindrance. If used skillfully such things may be of benefit, just so long as you are not attached to them or allow yourself to become deluded by them.

The only things I remember specifically about smoking and chi/energy were from the Tibetan Buddhism forums on the old E-Sangha. I am posting off of vague memories, so this may not be the most accurate. Anyway, if I recall correctly, some of the Tibetans seemed to think that smoking caused the central energy channel to become clogged or clouded. This could be overcome by either stopping smoking or by practicing energy increasing exercises like Pranayama, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, etc.

OTOH, rather than seeking to rouse more energy in the body, maybe simply sitting, observing the breath, and attempting to let go of the metaphysical things would be of benefit to you.

I can not offer you much help in your college/career decisions, but I wish you well and hope you find your direction.

Your chi energy is like a clear stream of pure water. Smoking marijuana and cigarettes is simply polluting the stream.

Naturally, like a polluted river, the flow of chi energy will be blocked and the natural lucidity of your mind will dissipate.

If you wish to develop the path of satori, you may consider giving these things up.

Regarding your career, it is best to let go of your questioning, doubts, worries & stress and simply finish your studies. Regarding your concerns about the nature of the planet & American society, let this go also and simply finish your studies.

Once you finish, then is the time to choose your direction. When people finish their education, the 'same direction' & conformity of education 'all follow' ends and people go their separate ways. This is when one's individuality is questioned, sought and hopefully found.

When I was at university, I was so disillusioned. I nearly left once but did not get the job I applied for. However, in hindsight, finishing that degree has served me well. Whilst I have never used it directly, having a degree has helped me greatly to gain employment.

Indeed, the world has many problems. Please do not let it weigh you down for now. Please do your best in your studies (then later choose your path).

In life, even if disillusioned with the world, we must love ourself & care for ourself. Our education is an essential aspect of loving & caring for ourself. The Buddha praised education highly.

as poto suggests simply sitting doing nothing but observing your own breath or the thoughts comes into your mind would do some good for you than smoking or taking drugs

Your balance between personal energy and concentration may have shifted towards concentration.

Too much energy and you are psychotic. Sometimes masters beat their students to dispace them from such highs.

Too much concentration and you are numb. Some 'pleasurable' states are numb. I have heard it said that such are creating karma for animal rebirth.
