What do you guys think about this man and his ideas on meditation?

edited January 2010 in Buddhism Basics
I came across this website, and already I was weary by the fact that they guy is Western. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely nothing wrong with being Western! The reason I am weary is because so often, these 'self-help' types are full of nonsense, desperately trying to sell us something.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on him and his 'teachings', just a quick look through and I noticed some interesting things I've never come across before, such as "Dangers of Meditating" for example..

I'm a n00b too, but if you click on the links to sex and drugs on his site, I think the guy is basically an ageing hippy trying to make a living out of his passion for meditation and spirituality.

He may have some good stuff, but I think I'd prefer to follow the well trodden path of the mainstream Buddhists; what-ever that is.

From a quick glance he appears hindu oriented with some mixture possibly.

I think he has strong Hindu-Yoga leanings.

Having been raised in that tradition, and having changed over to Buddhism later in life, I can say that while the two traditions seem very similar on the surface, they are in fact very different. You will get different results, different "perks" from tradition.

This fellow is not my cup of tea, but he seems okay for those who are drawn to his method. Despite his exposure to Buddhism, he doesn't have much of that in his mix.

We each have our own path that fits us best. It's like marriage: when you find the "right one", you commit (of course, divorce is always an option). You really don't get the same depth if you flit from one to another, whether it's lovers or dharma. Doesn't mean you can't look, though, but you don't really start to get somewhere until you commit.
