The Power of a Smile

edited January 2010 in Buddhism Basics
Haha, you can probably tell that I've been reading some Thich Nhat Hanh. He talks on and on about the power of a smile. How it relaxes all the muscles of the face. How it's almost impossible to be anxious or depressed while smiling(a real smile). How it makes us feel better, as well as everyone around us, etc. So I just wanted to share that and encourage all of you to keep on smiling!

Never underestimate the power of a smile. :)

I loved reading this! I do smile a lot, even when it hits the fan. People at work ask all the time "Why are YOU so happy?" I just reply why be sad? Count your blessings! No matter what there is something in your life that is "what makes you tick". You know? I'm not saying to forget the bad, but don't dwell on it.
    So smile :)
Glad to meet you too, Jim!

and a smile is universal! As an American who doesn't speak Japanese living in Japan, a nice, honest smile can convey much more than I can with words.

Thanks Jim. My Grandad always says "A smile costs nothing, so share it around"

I smile all the time, at stranger in the shops or on the street, its interesting who smiles back and who self consciously averts their eyes. I made a butcher drop a whole tray of rissoles last week when he did a double take of me smiling at him as I walked past. Hehehe, now thats powerful!
