Late answer, but:
What do you define as "basic Nichiren Buddhism"? Most Nipponzan Myohoji practitioners chant the Odaimoku, and walk for peace.
A friend attended a service with them once; they did chant the jigage, but only the minister chanted it. The rest only chanted the Odaimoku during the service.
Hopefully someone else has more information...................
