Visiting a temple--what should I expect

edited August 2005 in Sanghas
I did a search in the online yellow pages and discovered that there is a Buddhist temple right in downtown louisville :bigclap:

http://www.yellowpages.com/SearchResult.aspx?search=Buddhist+Temple&searchfor=Buddhist&typeorname=type&method=and&page=&searchform=&searchcategory=1046&state=KY&city=Louisville&distance=&street=&zipcode=&areacode=&firstchar=&narrowzip=&startposition=1

However, as I've never visited a temple of any type before, so can anyone fill me in on what to expect? I mean, I'd assume going on Sunday but I know this is a Christian culture thing, but then, it's also an American culture thing . . . I'm really pretty clueless here.

I always hear different things. The one common thing I hear is that they are pretty laid back and understanding. When I get back to Las Vegas I am going to look into this temple I used to drive by everyday when I lived there before.

There is no 'day', no Sabbath, usually, although many temples do run regular events. My own practice, in a strange place where I find there is a temple, is to go as soon as I find it. If there's no one there, I gather what information I can and go back until I meet someone or something happens.
