Buddhist "light" retreat

edited February 2010 in Buddhism Basics
Hi everyone,

I would like to go on a meditation retreat. I don't have a lot of time, max. one week, was thinking Sri Lanka, Tibet or Nepal, maybe Malaysia.
The problem is that I want it as a vacation, but I also would like to learn to meditate, and reduce stress.

All the retreats I found, basically have only meditation, so I won't be able to see the actual country.

Can anyone recommend anything, or is it necessary to just spend this time meditating in order to get something from it.

Thank you.

The retreats don't allow time to tour the area? Hm. Maybe you could call them and ask them if they would.

If you could find a retreat that runs over a long weekend or something (I don't know if such short retreats exist in the countries you mentioned though), maybe you could arrive in the country a few days before the retreat to do your sight seeing (or stay a few days after)?

Thank you so much for you replies!

That is what I am looking for, learning vipassana, but I can't devote 10 days for it((( It seems only possible to learn it like that. Maybe anyone knows some 3 day introductory course?
