The 3 Stages of Mental Perfection:
The 10 Mental Perfections (paramis = paramitas) are:
1: Generosity (Dana)
2: Morality (Sila)
3: Withdrawal (Nekkhamma)
4: Understanding (Pañña)
5: Enthusiastic Energy (Viriya)
6: Patient Forbearance (Khanti)
7: Honesty & Truthfulness (Sacca)
8: Resolute Determination (Adhitthana)
9: Kind Friendliness (Metta)
10: Balanced Equanimity (Upekkha)
The Buddha said:
"So few as these only, are these supreme mental qualities, which culminates
in Awakening. There is nothing elsewhere beyond them! Be thorough, firm
and systematic to complete them all..."
These 10 mental perfections can be developed to three levels:
I: Those who awakens as disciples = Savaka-Bodhis give all possessions away
including wife and kids to perfect generosity. Similar level with the 9 other
perfections...
II: Those who awakens as Solitary Buddhas = Pacceka-Buddhas give an
organ, limb or eye away to perfect generosity. Similar level with the 9 other
perfections...
III: Those who awakens as Perfect Buddhas = Sammasam-Buddhas give
even their own life away to perfect generosity. Similar level with the 9
other metal perfections...
The basic perfection of generosity is the relinquishing of one's children,
wives, and belongings, such as wealth. The intermediate perfection of
giving is the relinquishing of one's own limbs. The ultimate perfection of
giving is the relinquishing of one's own life. The 3 stages in the perfection
of morality should be understood as the non-transgression of morality on
account of the three: children and wife, limbs, and life. The three stages in
the perfection of withdrawal, as the withdrawal of those three bases after
cutting off attachment to them. The 3 perfections of understanding, as the
discrimination between what is advantageous or detrimental to beings after
rooting out craving for one's belongings, limbs, and life. The three stages in
the perfection of energy, as striving for the relinquishing of these 3things.
The three stages in the perfection of patience, as tolerance to obstacles
to one's belongings, limbs, and life. The 3 stages of perfection of Honesty,
as the non-abandoning of honesty due to one's belongings, limbs, and life.
The 3 stages of perfection of determination, as unshakeable determination
despite the destruction of one's belongings, limbs, & life, bearing in mind
that perfections ultimately succeed through a unflinching determination!
The three stages in the perfection of friendliness, as the maintaining of
friendliness towards any one, who destroys one's belongings! The 3 stages
in the perfection of equanimity, as maintaining an attitude of imperturbable
impartial neutrality towards all beings and phenomena, whether they are
helpful or harmful in regard to ones belongings, limbs, and life. In this way
should the analysis of the mental perfections be understood.

What are the 7 Sets, which produces Enlightenment?
Before the Blessed Buddha Gotama (563-483 BC) was the good Buddha Kassapa, and
before him were the Buddhas: Konagamana & Kakusandha all in this universal eon!
Before them were there Buddhas: Vessabhu, Sikhi, Vipassi, Phussa, and Tissa,
Siddhattha, Dhammadassi, Atthadassi, Piyadassi, Sujata, and Sumedha,
Padumuttara, Narada, Paduma, Anomadassi, Sobhita, Revata, and Sumana,
Mangala, Kondañña, Dipankara, Saranankara, Medhankara & Tanhankara!
Even before them were an endless number of Buddhas, who all explained
these Seven Sets of Qualities Producing Enlightenment! What Seven?
1: The Four Foundations of Awareness
2: The Four Best Efforts
3: The Four Ways to Force
4: The Five mental Abilities
5: The Five mental Powers
6: The 7 Links to Awakening
7: The Noble 8-fold Way
All Buddhas in the future beginning with Metteyya will also explain these!
Those who stay here and pays attention will learn each single set of ability
to an extent he/she will not easily forget.. Thus is lasting progress ensured!!!
When the mirror is polished, then it produces an entirely perfect reflection
of the original supreme absolute...Therefore: Hang on here! Never Give Up!
May all sentient beings awaken into the ultimate peace, freedom & happiness!

Stilling Desire and Lust, Stops the Yearning!
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Friends, you should abandon all desire and any lust for whatever there is
impermanent, vanishing, and neither me, nor mine, nor owned by any self!
And what is impermanent, suffering & neither me, nor mine, nor any self?
The eyes and all forms are impermanent, suffering, and all impersonal...
The ears and all sounds are transient, affliction, and without any self...
The nose and all smells are fleeting, miserable, and not belonging to any..
The tongue & all flavours are temporary, addictive, and always ownerless.
The body and all touches are passing, obsessive, remote, alien, & non-self!
The mind and all thoughts are momentary, imaginary and without a core...
Friends, you should eliminate all desire and any lust for whatever there is
impermanent, suffering, and impersonal, whether these appearances are
past, present or future, internal or external, high or low, fine or gross,
far or near... That will indeed ease your well-fare for a long, long time...
Why so? Because - Craving in itself! - is the very cause of all Suffering...
This is the 2nd Noble Truth, unheard of before, the Buddha discovered it!

Stop Yearning!
Desire and Lust Burns with Suffering!
http://what-buddha-said.net/drops/II/Desire_&_Lust.htm
Compassionate Pity cures all bitter Cruelty:
How does a Bhikkhu dwell pervading one direction with his mind endued
with compassion? Just as he would feel compassion on seeing an unlucky,
unfortunate person, so he pervades all beings with boundless compassion!
Therefore first of all, on eyeing a wretched man, deplorable, unfortunate,
in every way a fit object for compassion, horrid, reduced to utter misery,
with hands and feet cut off, sitting in the shelter for the weak & helpless
with an empty dirty pot placed before him, with maggots in all his wounds,
moaning, compassionate pity should be felt for him in this way: This being
has been reduced to misery: If only he could be freed from his suffering!
Similarly too should a Bhikkhu whose meditation subject is compassion also
arouse compassion for an evil-wrong-doing person, even if he is happy now:
Though this poor wretch is now happy, cheerful, & enjoying his wealth, but
still, since he has neglected to do even one single good deed, he can come to
experience untold suffering anytime after a downfall to the states of loss!
Such infinitely compassionate pity he feels towards all beings and especially
both towards himself, the dear friend, the neutral one, & the hostile person,
thereby breaking down the wrong attitude barrier separating these objects.
Vbh 273, Vism I 315
Compassionate Pity (Karuna), which cures all cruelty, is a divine state!

http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/III/Space_Compassion.htm
What is the proximate cause of Pity?
The proximate cause of Compassionate Pity (Karuna), which induces this
fine mental state, is seeing, knowing and understanding the HELPLESSNESS
of most beings, since they do the wrong that cause their misery influenced
by ignorance, which blind and obstruct their understanding of right & wrong,
and influenced by greed, lust and desire, which bind and drag them despite
their struggles, and influenced by hate, aversion and opposition, which push
and burn them from inside. Out of self-control they are thus bound to commit
wrong repeatedly and thus later experience the resulting downfall!
Have a nice compassionate day!

Death Contemplation is Daily Routine!
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Contemplation on death, Bhikkhus & friends, when developed & frequently
practised, brings high reward and blessing, has the Deathless Dimension
itself as goal & sweet fruit. And how so? Bhikkhus & friends, at every dawn
and dusk the wise Bhikkhu thinks to himself: Truly, there are many, many
possibilities of dying: a snake may bite me, or a scorpion or centipede may
sting me, and thereby I may lose my life. This would be an obstruction!
Or I may stumble and fall down; or become seriously sick, or bad men or
evil spirits may attack me, and thereby I may die. That would indeed be
for me an obstruction blocking Nibbana!
Here, a Bhikkhu therefore considers by intelligent reflection: Are there
still found in me unsubdued evil and disadvantageous mental states, that if
I should die today or tonight, would lead me to a bad, painful, low, ugly,
poor or unsuccessful next life?
Now, if he by such reflection realize that there are indeed still unsubdued
evil and disadvantageous mental states found in him, then he should use his
outmost determination, energetic effort, endurance, steady awareness,
and clear comprehension in order to subdue these evil & disadvantageous
mental states! If, however, the Bhikkhu by reflection notices that there
are not anymore found in him any evil & disadvantageous mental states,
then such Bhikkhu can dwell in pure blissful serene joy, training himself in
all advantageous things both by day and by night! Source: AN 8:74

How to be a Real Buddhist through Observance?
Vap Poya day is the full-moon of October. This holy day celebrates the
end of the Bhikkhu's three months rains retreat and marks the Kathina
month of robes , where lay people donate a set of robes to the Sangha.
This also celebrates the day that Buddha began to teach the Abhidhamma!
The Buddha descending from the Tavatimsa Level after having spent a rains
retreat there explaining the Abhidhamma to the assembled devas during
a single three months long speech! His biological mother Mahamaya, who
died 7 days after his birth, and was reborn in Tusita as a devata, was present.
He is followed down by the deva rulers Sakka and Maha-Brahma.

On such Full-Moon Uposatha Poya Observance days:
Any Lay Buddhist simply joins the Three Refuges and undertakes the
Five Precepts like this: Newly bathed, shaved, white-clothed, with clean
bare feet, one kneels at a shrine with a Buddha-statue, and bows first
three times, so that feet, hands, elbows, knees & head touch the floor.
Then, with joined palms at the heart, one recites these memorized lines
in a loud, calm & steady voice:
As long as this life lasts:
I hereby take refuge in the Buddha.
I hereby take refuge in the Dhamma.
I hereby take refuge in the Sangha.
I hereby seek shelter in the Buddha for the 2nd time.
I hereby seek shelter in the Dhamma for the 2nd time.
I hereby seek shelter in the Sangha for the 2nd time.
I hereby request protection from the Buddha for the 3rd time.
I hereby request protection from the Dhamma for the 3rd time.
I hereby request protection from the Sangha for the 3rd time.
I will hereby respect these Three Jewels the rest of my life!
I accept to respect & undertake these 5 training rules:
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Killing.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Stealing.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Sexual Abuse.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Dishonesty.
I hereby accept the training rule of avoiding all Alcohol & Drugs.
As long as this life lasts, I am thus protected by these 5 precepts...
Then, one keeps and protects these sacred vows better than one's
own eyes & children!, since they protect you & all other beings much
better than any army! They are the highest offer one can give in & to
this world! So is the start towards Nibbana: the Deathless Element!
This is the Noble Way to Peace, to Freedom, to Ease, to Happiness,
initiated by Morality, developed further by Dhamma-Study and
fulfilled by training of Meditation...
Today indeed is Pooya or Uposatha or observance day, where any lay
Buddhist normally keeps even the Eight Precepts from sunrise until the
next dawn... If any wish an official recognition by the Bhikkhu-Sangha,
they may simply forward the lines starting with "I hereby ..." signed with
name, date, town & country to me or join here. A public list of this new
quite rapidly growing global Saddhamma-Sangha is set up here!

There are four kinds of Mental Clinging:
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Bhikkhus: There are these four kinds of Clinging. What four?
1: Clinging to Sense-Pleasures...
2: Clinging to Various Views...
3: Clinging to Rituals and Superstition…
4: Clinging to an an Ego-Concept…
These are the four kinds of Clinging!
This Noble 8-fold Way is to be developed for the direct experience of the
four kinds of clinging, for the full understanding of these clingings,
for their complete elimination, and for their final overcoming, abandoning
and leaving all behind…
The Noble 8-fold Way is developed for the ceasing of all clinging!
Comments:
1: The 1st kind of clinging to sights, sounds, smells, flavours, touches, and
thoughts is fairly obvious, yet still long habituated and thus tenacious...
2: Clinging is to Views is thinking: Doing good deeds are completely useless.
Doing evil have no consequences! No action has any effect on my future!
3: Clinging to rituals & superstition is like thinking that fire, bathing, and
various empty rituals, like wearing funny hats & praying, can purify mind…
3: Clinging to an Ego-concept, personality-belief, & a 'self' is the assuming
an unchanging internal entity ‘I-Me', which however is non-existent...
The proximate cause of all clinging is Craving, which have to be left!
This is the 2nd Noble Truth! Clinging means: adherence, attachment, grip,
clasping, clutching, grasping, stubbornly and tenaciously sticking to.
The word pali word the Buddha used ‘Upadana’ literally means ‘taking up’
indicating that as soon as one takes up the object, then clinging occurs!
Sariputta once said:
When, friends, a Noble Disciple understands clinging, the cause of clinging,
the ceasing of clinging, and the way leading to the ceasing of clinging, in
that way he is one of right view, whose view is straight, who has perfect
confidence in the Dhamma, and has arrived at this true Dhamma...
And what is clinging, what is the cause of clinging, what is the ceasing of
clinging, what is the way to the cease clinging?
Friends: There are these 4 kinds of clinging: clinging to sense-pleasures,
clinging to views, clinging to rituals & superstition, and the subtle clinging
to the ego-concept of an assumed inner self. With the arising of craving,
clinging also arises. With the ceasing of craving, clinging thus ceases too!
The way leading to the ceasing of clinging is just this Noble 8-fold Way:
Right View, Right, Motivation, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood,
Right Effort, Right Awareness, and Right Concentration…

How to train Rejoicing Joy in others Success?
When sitting alone, in silence, each early morning, with closed eyes one wishes:
May I radiate and meet only never-ending and mutually rejoicing joy!
May I & all the various beings on the 31 levels of existence develop and find
only celebration and elation in a never-ending mutually rejoicing joy!
May I & all beings on the sense-desire, fine-material, and the formless plane
develop and encounter this generous, infinite and mutually rejoicing joy!
May I & all beings in the front, to the right, the back, the left, and below as
above, develop and experience openhearted, sharing, & mutually rejoicing joy!
May I and all beings within this city, country, planet and universe always:
Be fully aware and deeply mindful of this content and mutually rejoicing joy!
Examine all details & aspects of this satisfied and mutually rejoicing joy!
Put enthusiastic effort in our praxis of this devoted mutually rejoicing joy!
Enjoy enraptured jubilant gladness in this exulting mutually rejoicing joy!
Be silenced by the tranquillity of quiet and all smiling mutually rejoicing joy!
Be concentrated & absorbed into one-pointedness by genuine rejoicing joy!
Dwell in an imperturbable equanimity of pure and mutually rejoicing joy...
Yeah! May it be even so, since mutual joy causes the jewel of contentment!
Comment: Mutual Joy is the 3rd infinite mental state (Appamañña):
This gradually reduces all envy, jealousy, possessiveness, stinginess, avarice
miserliness, green covetousness and unhappiness related with all these states.
The cause of Mutual Joy in rejoicing in your child's or boon companion's success.
This same joy can then be beamed towards all liked, neutral and hostile beings.
Mutual Joy is then the proximate cause of satisfied and fulfilled Contentment...
Lack of mutual joy is thus the proximate cause of dissatisfied discontentment...
Joined with the 7 links to Awakening it will later cause a formless jhana...
Be happy at all and especially other being's success! Then calm comfort grows!

The 4 Truths perform 4 Functions in a single Moment!
The Blessed Buddha once said this:
Bhikkhus, any one who sees the 1st Truth on Suffering, sees also The Cause of Suffering,
sees also the 3rd Truth on The End of Suffering, sees also The Way to End all Suffering..
Any one who sees the 2nd Truth on The Cause of Suffering, sees also Suffering, Ending,
& 4th Truth on The Way. And any one who sees The End, sees also Pain, Cause, & The Way.
Consequently any one who sees The Noble Way to End all Pain, sees also this as Suffering,
sees also That Craving Causes the Suffering, sees also That No Craving Ends all Suffering!
Comments on Coming to the 4 Breakthrough moments:
Breakthrough to the Truths thus performs 4 functions at a single moment! 4 of these fine
breakthroughs occur at each path-entry-moment to Nobility... The effect is each time an
even deeper irreversible mental purification! When these 4 Truths are flashing forth fully
this transforms one's life into Nibbana as the single object pointed to as possible escape!

How does one Tumble Down the Abyss?
Once, a certain not very well-known Bhikkhu asked the Blessed Buddha:
Venerable Sir: What is the steepest & most frightening abyss for downfall?
The Blessed Gotama Buddha then pointed out:
Bhikkhu: All those ascetics & priests, who do not understand as it really is:
This is Suffering; Craving Causes Suffering; No Craving Ends Suffering;
This Noble 8-fold Way leads to the End of Suffering, they delight in forming
intentions, that lead to rebirth, aging, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief
and despair. Delighting in forming such intentions, they generate & accumulate
intentional mental constructions, that indeed induce and set off rebirth, aging,
death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief and despair. All unaware of having thus
produced their own painful future, they tumble ever again down this abyss of
rebirth, aging, and death, tumble down the abyss of sorrow, lamentation, pain,
grief, and they tumble down the abyss of utter despair. They are therefore
not freed from this rebirth, aging, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief and
not freed from despair... I tell you: They are not freed from all this Suffering!
However those ascetics and recluses who do understand the 4 Noble Truths
they do not delight in forming new intentions, and therefore do they neither
generate, nor accumulate intentional mental constructions inducing rebirth,
aging, death, sorrow, pain, grief and despair. They are thus freed from rebirth!
I tell you: They are thereby freed from all possible future Suffering whatsoever!
Concise Comment:
Any intention that accumulates the kammic cause of future rebirth, thereby also
inherently includes the cause of future ageing, decay, mortality & thus Suffering!

Breakthrough to the Truths eliminates a Mountain of Suffering!
The Blessed Gotama Buddha once explained:
Bhikkhus & friends, please see this little dust that I have taken up upon the
nail of my little-finger, what do you think is most: This tiny amount of dust
or this great planet Earth? The Bhikkhus then responded:
Venerable Sir, this great planet Earth is much more, incomparable more...
The minute speck of dust is trifling, microscopic, negligible in comparison.
The Blessed Gotama Buddha then pointed out:
Similarly and exactly so too, is that amount of samsaric Suffering, which
remains for a Noble Disciple trifling, microscopic, negligible in comparison.
For such Noble One, who is consummated in view, who has broken through
to understanding the 4 Noble Truths, the accumulated mass of Suffering,
that has been shattered and irreversibly eliminated is incomparable more...
The Suffering that still remains to be experienced for such a Noble person,
is trifling, microscopic, & negligible in comparison, since there remains only
a maximum of 7 more lives for such a Noble One, as he is one who actually
understands all this, as it really, truly, essentially and assuredly indeed is:
All this is Suffering;
Craving is the Cause of Suffering;
No Craving is the End of Suffering;
The Noble 8-fold Way Ends all Suffering,
Therefore, Bhikkhus & friends, exertion should be made Now to understand:
All This is Suffering; This Greedy Craving is the sole Cause of all Suffering;
No Craving is the End of Suffering; The Noble 8-fold Way Ends all Suffering,
Therefore should an effort to fathom these 4 Noble Truths be made NOW!
Comment:
Seeing the Truths is thus equivalent to a saving release from gigantic pain!

How to Give with only Good & Joyous Result :-)
There might be the case, where one gives wealth, but without joy!
Then, the later result is, that one gets wealth, but without any joy!
Illustration:
A multi-billionaire at Buddha's time was known as neither enjoying
himself, nor sharing any of his wealth. He lived alone in an old house,
which were falling apart, wore rag clothes, ate only broken rice and
drove a ramshackle ox-cart. When he died, then it took 2 weeks to
move his gold & silver to the kings treasury...
This king then approached and asked the Blessed Gotama Buddha:
How come this man neither ever enjoyed, nor shared out of his wealth?
The Buddha then reviewed his case and explained that 8 generations
back this man had given a single meal to a Solitary Pacceka-Buddha!
Yet after he had given, he felt no joy from it and even regretted that
he did it. For 7 consecutive lives he was reborn as multi-billionaire,
but without ever being able to enjoy any of it. Having now used up
his accumulated merit, without ever doing any refilling good action,
he had now, at the break-up of his body, re-arised in a bad state...
Apparently, he had never asked anybody about cause and effect!
The Opposite Case:
When old, the Noble Disciple recollects his own generosity thus:
"I am truly Blessed, highly fortunate am I who joyous, among beings
defiled with the mental stain of stinginess, live with a mind freed from
stinginess, liberal, open-handed, rejoicing in giving, ready to give anything
asked for, glad to give and happy to share with others. Such Noble One
not only later gets much wealth, but also enjoys it. Why so?
Not only does he give, but he also enjoys it both be and aft
er the giving!
Most Gods actually became Divine Beings as a result of Giving!

Inner Tranquillity is a Mental Power!
In what sense is calm a power? In the 1st jhana this mental calm does not
waver even when attacked by the 5 mental hindrances, thus is calm a power!
In the 2nd jhana this serenity does not flicker even by thoughts or thinking,
thus is calm a power... In the subtle mental sphere of neither perception nor
non-perception, this tranquil composure does not hesitate being faced with
void empty nothingness, thus is calm a power! Such silenced imperturbability
can neither waver, nor vacillate, nor hesitate in any fluctuating indecisiveness
despite being provoked by agitation, confusion, distraction or perturbation,
therefore is calmness a power. Such is the power of calm: The calm power!

How to train and purify Imperturbable Equanimity!
Sitting alone, in silence, each early morning, with closed eyes one wishes:
May I radiate and meet only calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all the various beings on the 31 levels of existence develop and find
only the composure and poise of calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings on the sense-desire, fine-material, and the formless plane
develop and encounter this serene, calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in the front, to the right, the back, the left and below as
above develop and experience cool, calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in this city, country, and universe always be fully aware
and deeply mindful of this steady, calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in this city, country, and universe examine all details and
subtle aspects of this unstirred, placid, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in this city, country, and universe put enthusiastic effort
into their training of this solid, calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe find enraptured joy and
jubilant gladness in this unmovable, calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in this city, country, and universe cultivate the tranquillity
of quiet, silent, stilled, and all smiling calm, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in this city, country and universe attain concentrated and
absorbed one-pointedness by stoic, deep, imperturbable, and even equanimity!
May I and all beings in this city, country, and universe dwell in undisturbable
and imperturbable equanimity of unexcitable and unreactive detachment...
Yeah! Print this out, dwell in each state until pure, use ~ 25-45 minutes.
Comment: Imperturbable Equanimity is the 4th infinite state (Appamañña):
This gradually reduces all desire, attraction, drift, tendency, bias, preference,
favouritism, one-sided partiality and unhappiness related with all these states.
Equanimity is the proximate cause of any knowing and seeing leading to Wisdom...
Equanimity is an extremely subtle form of solid, calm and peaceful Happiness...
Equanimity purifies all other advantageous states and brings them to Perfection...
Equanimity is unresponsive indifference, unstirred, unaffected, and untroubled!!!
There is Equanimity both regarding all live beings and all dead things!
There is Equanimity both regarding all internal and all external states!
There is Equanimity both regarding all past, all present and all future events!
There is Equanimity both regarding all what is mental and all which is physical!
There is Equanimity both regarding all what is material and all which is immaterial!
There is Equanimity both regarding all formed and all formless phenomena!
Cultivating such six-fold equanimity brings this supreme state to completion.

Equanimity gives delicate Peace & Happiness!
Equanimity (Upekkha) entails a composed equipoise of solid mental balance!
It is Tatra-majjhattata = keeping to the moderate middle of all phenomena.
Equanimity balances consciousness so it prevents both all excessiveness and
any deficiency. In equanimity mind is neither attracted by attractive things,
nor repelled by repulsive things. The cause of equanimity is seeing the law of
kamma: All beings are born and created by their kamma, they are owners of
their kamma, inherit their kamma, whatever they do, whether good or bad,
the effects of that will be theirs only, following them like a shadow of past!
The effect of Equanimity is threefold:
Exquisite, relaxed & subtle peace felt as calm happiness is instantly gained.
Equanimity purifies and completes all the 7 crucial Links to Awakening...
Equanimity is the proximate cause of knowledge and vision (ñanadassana)!

When has one penetrated & arrived at True Wisdom?
Once, a certain not very well-known Bhikkhu asked the Blessed Buddha:
Venerable Sir: True Wisdom is it said. What is really True Wisdom?
Venerable Sir: When has one arrived at such true Wisdom?
The Blessed Gotama Buddha then pointed out:
Understanding and knowing that: This is Suffering is True Wisdom;
Understanding that: Craving is the Cause of Suffering is True Wisdom;
Understanding that: No Craving is the End of Suffering is True Wisdom;
Understanding that: The Noble 8-fold Way ends Suffering is True Wisdom!
All this profound understanding and direct knowledge of the absolute is
True Wisdom, and it is by that very penetrating comprehension, that glimpse
of a far-reaching ultimate reality, that one has arrived at this true Wisdom!
Therefore, Bhikkhu, an effort should be made much now of to understand:
This is Suffering; an effort should be made much of now to comprehend:
This is the Cause of Suffering; an effort should be made now so to realize:
This is the End of Suffering; An effort should be made now to penetrate,
recognize, and develop, This is the Way leading to the End of Suffering..

Overcoming Fear for any Bad Destination!
Once in Savatthi the Blessed Buddha said this:
Bhikkhus, any Noble Disciple, who possesses four things has transcended all fear
of any bad future destination. What four?
1: Here, any Noble Disciple possesses confirmed confidence in the Buddha thus:
Worthy, honourable & perfectly self-Enlightened is the Buddha! Consummated in
knowledge & behaviour, totally transcended, expert in all dimensions, knower of all
worlds, unsurpassable trainer of those who can be tamed, teacher & guide of gods
as well as of humans, blessed, exalted, awakened & enlightened is the Buddha!!!
2: Any Noble Disciple possesses confirmed confidence in the Dhamma thus:
Perfectly formulated is this Buddha-Dhamma, visible right here & now, immediately
effective, timeless, inviting each & everyone to come and see for themselves,
inspect, examine & verify. Leading each & everyone through progress towards
perfection. Directly observable, experiencable & realizable by each intelligence...
3: Any Noble Disciple possesses confirmed confidence in the Sangha thus:
Perfectly training is this Noble Sangha community of the Buddha's Noble disciples:
Training the right way, the true way, the good way, the direct way! Therefore do
these 8 kinds of individuals, these 4 Noble pairs, deserve both gifts, self-sacrifice,
offerings, hospitality and reverential salutation with joined palms, since this Noble
Sangha community of the Buddha's Noble disciples, is an unsurpassable & forever
unsurpassed field of merit, in this world, for this world, to respect, and protect...
4: Any Noble Disciple possesses the Morality esteemed by the Noble ones:
Unbroken, untorn, unspotted, freeing, praised by the good, inducing concentration!
Any Noble Disciple, who possesses these four things has transcended and gone all
beyond all fear of a bad destination, rightly beyond all fear of a painful future...

Without Fear!!!
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/IV/No_Fear.htm
Any Cause produces an Effect:
Therefore:
Never do any Evil!
Neither openly, nor in Secret...
If having done bad, or is doing wrong now, pain surely returns,
even though one flee by flying away up into the deep empty space...
The effect of any action, good as bad, follows the doer like a shadow,
that never leaves... Consequence is always Certain... Why so?
Because one cannot hide anything for one's own mind!
It knows, remembers and re-creates reactions accordingly!
Mind is therefore the forerunner of all phenomena...
The Blessed Buddha said on non-violence:
Solitude is happiness for one who is content,
who has heard the Dhamma and clearly sees.
Non-violence is happiness in this world:
Harmlessness towards all living beings.

Establishing the 4 Foundations of Awareness!
How, friends, does one view any Body only as a Form?
While always acutely alert & clearly comprehending, thus removing
any lust, urge, envy, frustration & discontent rooted in this world,
The intelligent Bhikkhu keeps contemplating & regarding any & all
Body as an alien frame of filthy foul form... As something bound
to emerge, decay and vanish... Not as mine, belonging to me or self!
Not as lasting, stable & safe! Not as pleasant beauty & happiness!
In this way the intelligent Bhikkhu keeps reviewing any & all body
whether internal or external and he notes the cause of its arising
and the cause of its ceasing, or he just know: There is this body!
In this way he comes to live not clinging to & independent of body!
This is one way to contemplate the body only as a transient form...
Or he gains awareness of the body only as a form by Breathing:
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/II/Awareness_by_Breathing.htm
Or he gains awareness of the body by Noting the 4 Postures:
When walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, he notes that he is
walking, standing, sitting or lying down. However his body is placed
he notes it to be exactly so.
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/III/The_Four_Postures.htm
Or he gains body awareness by Clear Comprehension of all actions:
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/Clear_Comprehension.htm
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/III/Clear_and_Aware_Comprehension.htm
Or he gains body awareness by Scanning the 32 Internal Organs:
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/III/The_32_Parts.htm
Or he gains body awareness by Analysis of it into the 4 Elements:
This body is only a cluster of solidity, fluidity, heat and motion!
Or he gains body awareness by The 9 Corpse Contemplations:
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/III/The_9_Corpse_Meditations.htm
Remaining thus attentive & enthusiasticly noting, any memories
& motivations related to the household life are left & with their total
removal his mind gathers, settles inwardly, & dives into unification!
In this way the intelligent Bhikkhu keeps reviewing any & all body,
whether internal or external, and he notes the cause of its arising
and the cause of its ceasing, or he just notice: There is this body!
In this way he comes to live not clinging to & independent of body!
This is the way to contemplate the body only as a transient, alien &
ownerless form of matter, a complex structure of disgusting things,
a constructed accumulation of putrid, rotting and decaying slime,
a painful restricting & deceasing burden one have to carry around!
This is how the intelligent Bhikkhu develops mindful awareness by
focusing on the body as a deadly form of matter... As something
bound to decay and vanish... Not as mine, belonging to me or self!
Not as lasting, stable & safe! Not as pleasant beauty & happiness!!!
The reward is Fearlessness of Death & thereby Fearlessness of All!
Without fear there is the mental elevation of gladness and free joy!
It detaches and relinquishes from body & form and frees thereby...

Only by Guarding the 6 Sense Doors is one in Control!
The Blessed Buddha once explained mental control like this:
Friends, having seen a form with the eye, one remains neither attracted
towards any nice form, nor repelled by any disgusting form...
Having heard a sound with the ear, one remains neither captivated by any
fine sound, nor repulsed by any horrible sound...
Having smelled a smell with the nose, one remains neither allured by any
pleasant smell, nor rejected by any repulsive smell...
Having tasted a taste with the tongue, one remains neither fascinated by
any delightful taste, nor reversed by any revolting taste...
Having touched a touch with the body, one remains neither tempted by
any delicate touch, nor disgusted by any unpleasant touch...
Having thought an idea with the mind, one remains neither enticed by any
agreeable thought, nor disappointed by any disagreeable thought...
One resides having established constant awareness of the body & within
an infinite mind. Thereby one comes to know directly that release of mind
and that release by understanding, wherein all harmful detrimental states
irreversibly cease without remaining traces left behind... It is in this very
way, that one lives in full mental control with the 6 sense doors guarded...
Comments:
Awareness of the body means seeing it as an afflicting skin-bag of bones,
bowels, tendons, excrement and urine, with nine holes oozing with filth...!
Such continuous awareness disables any arising of desire, lust and greed!
Dwelling within an infinite mind means constant attention to the aspects of:
Universal friendliness, endless pity, mutual joy, & imperturbable equanimity.
Such continuous good-will prevents any arising of hate, anger & irritation!
One should dwell like the snake, which sees the mouse hide in ant-hill with
six openings! By lying rolled up on the anthill - constantly watching! - the
snake remains thinking: Out of which hole may this mouse now appear?
Even so one thinks: Through which sense door may the next contact appear?

Guarding the Senses!
Mental Control comes by Guarding the Senses!
http://what-buddha-said.net/drops/II/Guarding_the_Sense_Doors.htm
Transcendence from Ignorance to Nibbâna!
Buddha once explained the entire chain of causes leading to Nibbana:
Ignorance is the proximate cause of mental construction.
Mental construction is the proximate cause of consciousness.
Consciousness is the proximate cause of name-&-form.
Name-&-form is the proximate cause of the 6 senses.

The inevitable Dissolution of All:
All past constructions have vanished:
All present construction is vanishing.
All future constructions will vanish.
All phenomena are sure to cease.
All being in existence will be cut off.
All becoming is therefore truly a Terror.
It is Void, Vain & Empty
Like an Empty Village,
Like a tumour, a cancer,
Like a disease, an affliction,
Like a trap, a burning pit.
About this Generalization the Ancients Elders said:
The substitution of the Object.
The transference of the Understanding.
The power of redirecting thought - these
Are the Insights following real Reflection.
Defining both to be Alike.
By inference from that same object,
Intent on Ending all - these are insights
into the characteristics of Decay & Fall.
Having reflected on an object,
One contemplates dissolution of that thought,
Appearance then as Empty - this
Is Insight into higher Understanding.
Clever in the three Contemplations:
(arising, fall, dissolution of all phenomena)
And in the fourfold Insight too.
Skilled in the three Appearances:
(transient, pain & non-self are all states)
The various diverse views cannot shake him.
With view of what is Present purified.
He infers the past & future to be alike.
He knows that all constructions disappear
Like a dew drop in the morning sun.
The clusters of clinging cease & nothing else ever were.
The breakup of these groups is known as Death.
He observes their continual decay unwaveringly
As one who drill a hole in a jewel with a diamond!
Visuddhimagga-Magga (The Path of Purification) XXI
As the expert drilling a jewel with a diamond tool only pays
attention to the hole and not to the colour of the jewel,
so do the meditator too, wisely keep his mind fixed & focused
on the Ceaseless Dissolution of all conditioned constructions
and not on the constructions ( mental formations) themselves.
Visuddhimagga-Magga commentary (Paramatthamanjusa) [830]
And he who regards the World
as one who watches a bubble,
as one views a mirror image,
is unseen by Death - the King.
Dhammapada 170.
When one sees the dissolution of reflection on causes & conditions,
this thinking in itself being an construction - a mental formation -
the ancients elders (poranas) said
He sees with insight both the known & the knowledge.
Knowledge is what is known &
understanding is the act of understanding that.
Seeing with insight is always seeing it as it really is:
Impermanent, miserable & impersonal.
Be careful. The World is a Trap of Transience!
Trapped by Transience...
Inevitable is the Dissolution of All Phenomena!

Any Buddhist disciple should avoid taking anything from anywhere knowing it belongs to another. He should neither steal, nor swindle, nor incite others to steal or cheat. He should completely avoid all theft, deception and fraud. Sutta Nipata 2.397
The second Basic Buddhist Training-rule (precept) is avoiding taking what is not given. Avoidance of all stealing, cheating, fraud, theft, embezzlement and misappropriating of any kind of valuables from any individual or organization that pure and for all advantageous behaviour induces a safe harmony personally and also in any society.

The Evaporator of all Evil States of Mind!
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Bhikkhus and Friends: Once the mental release by infinite Friendliness
has been developed, frequently practised, firmly established, expanded,
made a vehicle, foundation, and brought to full perfection, then it will
be impossible for ill-will to take possession of and obsess the mind, for
the mental release by infinite Friendliness is the release from all ill-will!
Once the mental release by compassionate Pity & tender understanding
has been developed, frequently practised, firmly established, expanded,
made a vehicle, foundation, and brought to full perfection, then it will
be impossible for violence to take possession of and obsess the mind, for
the mental release by compassionate Pity is the release from all violence!
Once the mental release by mutual Joy rejoicing in other being's success
has been developed, frequently practised, firmly established, expanded,
made a vehicle, foundation, and brought to full perfection, then it will be
impossible for discontent to take possession of & obsess the mind, for
the mental release by mutual Joy is the release from all discontent!
Once the mental release by serene, still and imperturbable Equanimity
has been developed, frequently practised, firmly established, expanded,
made a vehicle, foundation, and brought to full perfection, then it will be
impossible for greed & lust to take possession of & obsess the mind, for
release by imperturbable Equanimity is the deliverance from all greed!

Emancipating is Following the Accomplished Ones!
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Friends, those Bhikkhus who are accomplished in morality, masters in concentration,
experts in understanding, consummated in release, fulfilled in the knowledge & vision
of release, I tell you even just a short sight of those Bhikkhus is advantageous, even
just listening to them is very profitable, even just visiting them is like a golden fortune,
even attending on and helping them is productive of good, even just remembering them
is valuable, and going forth after or under them is therefore worthwhile, and expedient!
Why? Because, when one has heard true Dhamma from such Bhikkhus, then one dwells
withdrawn calmed by two kinds of seclusion: secluded in body and secluded in mind!

How can one experience Ceasing of all Pain?
The blessed Buddha once explained:
Bhikkhus, the concentration won by Awareness by Breathing, when developed
and frequently cultivated, is of great fruit and results in a big advantage...
And how, Bhikkhus, is concentration by Awareness by Breathing developed and
cultivated so that it is of great fruit and advantage?
Bhikkhus, when one have gone to the forest, or to the root of a tree, or to an
empty hut, there one sits down cross-legged, having straightened one's body
and back, and set up awareness around the nostrils, then just plainly aware of
that breathing itself one breathes in, & just solely aware of only that breath
in itself, one breathes out...
Breathing in long, one knows, notes and understands: I inhale long!
Breathing out long, one knows, notes and understands: I exhale long!
... ... ... (steps 2-15) ... ... ...
One trains thus: Contemplating relinquishment, I will breathe in!
One trains thus: Contemplating relinquishment, I will breathe out!
Therefore, if such friend feels a pleasant feeling, then he understands through
his prior training in breathing meditation:
It is impermanent; it should neither be clung to nor delighted in...
If he feels a painful feeling, then he indeed also understands:
It is impermanent; it should neither be clung to nor engaged in...
If he feels a neutral feeling there and then he also understands:
It is impermanent; it should neither be clung to nor involved in...
Whether he feels a pleasant feeling, or a painful feeling, or a neutral feeling,
he feels it as if detached from it, and as something remote, and alien...
If he feels a feeling terminating with the body, then he understands:
If feel a feeling terminating at the same time as this body...
If he feels a feeling terminating with life, then he understands:
I feel a feeling terminating at the same time as this life...
He then understands: With the break-up of this frame of a body, following
the exhaustion of life, all that is felt, and all sensed, not being delighted in,
will turn cold right there and then... Just as, bhikkhus, an oil lamp burns in
dependence on the oil and the wick, and with the exhaustion of the oil and the
wick the flame ceases to burn through lack of fuel, exactly so too, Bhikkhus,
when such a Bhikkhu feels a feeling terminating with the body or with life...
Then he understands: With the break-up of this fragile frame of a body,
following the exhaustion of life, all that is felt, all that is sensed, by not being
delighted in, by not being clung to, will cool down & cease right there & then!

What is this Fundamental Right Awareness?
That Noble Eightfold Way, leading to Nibbana, is simply this:
Right View, Right Motivation, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood,
Right Effort, Right Awareness and Right Concentration.
But what is Right Awareness?
The 4-fold Definition of Right Awareness:
1: Awareness of the Body merely as a transient and compounded Form..
2: Awareness of Feelings just as conditioned emotional Responses..
3: Awareness of Mind only as habituated and temporary Moods..
4: Awareness of Phenomena only as constructed Mental States..
Right Awareness is of these 4, while being alert, & clearly comprehending,
will put away longing towards and aversion against anything in this world!
The Characterization of Right Awareness:
Awareness of wrong view or right view present now, is Right Awareness!
Awareness of wrong motivation or right motivation, is Right Awareness!
Awareness of wrong speech or right speech now, is Right Awareness!
Awareness of wrong action or right action, is Right Awareness!
Awareness of wrong livelihood or right livelihood, is Right Awareness!
Awareness of wrong effort or right effort, is Right Awareness!
Awareness of wrong awareness or right awareness, is Right Awareness!
Awareness of wrong or right concentration now, is Right Awareness!
The Explanation of Acute Awareness and Clear Comprehension:
When inhaling & exhaling long, one notices and is fully aware of just that..
When inhaling & exhaling short, one notices & is fully aware of just that..
One trains: I will breathe in-&-out clearly comprehending the entire body.
One trains: I will breathe in-&-out calming the breath & all bodily activity.
When walking, one notices and clearly comprehends, that one is walking.
When standing, one notices and clearly comprehends, that one is standing.
When sitting, one notices & clearly comprehends, that one is sitting down.
When lying down, one notices & clearly comprehends, that one is lying.
Going forward one notices & clearly comprehends, this going forward.
When returning one notices and clearly comprehends, this returning.
When looking in front or back, one is notices, & is clearly aware of that.
When bending or stretching, when lifting or carrying, when eating or
drinking, chewing or tasting, one is aware of and comprehends just that.
When passing excrement or urine one clearly comprehends exactly that.
While falling asleep and waking up, when speaking or keeping silence,
one notices, knows and understands exactly that & clearly comprehends,
that this is, what one is doing just right here and exactly now...
Continuous awareness of purpose, suitability, domain and nature of one's
current behaviour, whether mental, verbal or bodily is Right Awareness
and clear comprehension...
The Function of Right Awareness and its associates:
Knowing right/wrong awareness as right/wrong awareness, is right view.
Exchanging wrong awareness with right awareness is right effort.
Right awareness has the function of observing, noticing, remembering &
knowing the reality that neither any body, nor any form, nor any feeling,
nor any mentality, nor any phenomena, nor any mental state is happiness,
truly attractive, lasting, satisfying or even personal, something keepable...
All phenomena are momentary: They pass away right after the moment of
their arising and occurrence! Nothing is permanent, everything is in a state
of flux: Arising and ceasing, emerging and vanishing, coming and going,
again and again and again and again and ever again...!!! Anicca = Change...
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Friends, this is the only direct way to the mental purification of beings,
to the overcoming & elimination of sorrow, frustration, pain and misery,
to gaining the right method, to the realization of Nibbana, that is:
This establishing of the 4 Foundations of Awareness...
The 4 frames of reference...
Awareness is therefore a Mountain of Advantage!
Take Home: The 4 Foundations of Right Awareness are:
1: Being aware of the BODY as a mere transient form.
2: Being aware of the FEELING as a mere reactive response.
3: Being aware of the MIND as a mere passing set of moods.
4: Being aware of the PHENOMENON as a mere mental state.

Breakthrough to the Truths safeguards against Downfall Rebirth!
The Blessed Gotama Buddha once explained:
Bhikkhus and friends, see this little dust, I have taken up upon the nail of
my little-finger, what do you think is most: This tiny amount dust or this
great planet Earth? The Bhikkhus then responded:
Venerable Sir, this great planet Earth is much more, incomparable more...
The minute speck of dust is trifling, microscopic, negligible in comparison!
The Blessed Gotama Buddha then succinctly pointed out:
Similarly and exactly so too, Bhikkhus and friends, those beings are few &
quite rare, who are reborn among humans or devas! Beings who are reborn
elsewhere, lower, as non-humans, in the screaming hell, as scared animals,
as hungry ghosts, or as mad demons are much more numerous and common...
Why is it so? Because, these beings have not understood the 4 Noble Truths!
What four?
The 1st Noble Truth: This is Suffering;
The 2nd Noble Truth: Craving is the Cause of Suffering;
The 3rd Noble Truth: No Craving is the End of Suffering;
The 4th Noble Truth: The Noble 8-fold Way ceases all Suffering.
Therefore, Bhikkhus & friends, exertion should be made Now to understand:
All This is Suffering; This Greedy Craving is the sole Cause of all Suffering;
No Craving is the End of Suffering; The Noble 8-fold Way Ends all Suffering,
Therefore should effort to fathom these 4 Noble Truths be made NOW!

Prior or later good action enhances & prolongs effects of good Kamma!
The Blessed Buddha once explained:
Regarding the effects of actions, Ananda, as to the person here who avoids all killing of
any living being, who avoids all taking what is not given, who avoids all any misconduct in
sensual pleasures, who avoids all false speech, divisive speech, aggressive speech, and all
idle & empty gossip, who is not envious nor jealous, who is of good will, & who holds right
views and who at the breakup of the body, right after death, is reborn in a pleasurable &
happy destination, even in the divine dimensions: Either earlier -prior to this- such one also
did good actions to be felt as pleasurable, or later -after this- such one also did quite good
actions to be felt as pleasure, or at the death-moment such one entered & maintained right
views! Caused by that such good one is reborn in a happy destination, even in the heavens!
And since such good one furthermore also here & now has been one who avoids all killing
of any living being, who avoids all taking what is not given, who avoids all any misconduct
in sensual pleasures, who avoids all false speech, divisive speech, aggressive speech, & all
idle & empty gossip, who is neither envious nor jealous, who is of good will, & who holds right
views, such one will experience the pleasant results of that too, either here and now, or in the
next rebirth, or in some subsequent later existence...

What brings beings over the Sea of Suffering?
The Blessed Buddha once explained the means and method to escape pain:
One should respect an intelligent one, from whom one can learn the Dhamma,
just as the deities respect & honour their divine god Indra. Then with clear
and elevated mind, he will reveal the Dhamma to one, when he is respected!
If one cultivates such a great man carefully, making it his/her aim to listen
and learn attentively, entering upon the Dhamma, and upon what conforms
with the Dhamma, then his/her understanding will become clever & subtle!
However, if one associates with the petty & envious fool, who has no direct
experience of the aim, then one will die still pestered by perplexing doubts!
Since how can a man, who has been dragged down into a swift-flowing river,
who is been carried along with the current, ever help any others to cross?
Similarly, how can one who has not learned the Dhamma, & has not listened
to the explanations given by the learned ones, who is ignorant of it himself,
and has not overcome doubt, help others to realize the stainless certainty?
Just as one embarking upon a strong boat, with well build oars and rudder,
could bring many others across there, being clever, considerate, knowing
well how to do it. In exactly the same way can one, who is self-developed,
who understands, who is learned and imperturbable make others realize it,
if they have got the capacity to understand, and the willingness to listen...
Therefore should one cultivate only a good man, who is clever and learned!

How to Meet Buddha Metteyya in the Future:
The Buddha Metteyya, the Friendly One, will be the last & 5th Buddha in this Aeon !
1: One should give gifts (dana),
2: One should observe morality (sila),
3: One should practice meditation (bhavana),
4: One should be firm and determined (dalha),
5: One should wish sincerely to meet him with agitated mind (ubbigga-manasa),
6: One should be stirred by an acute sense of urgency (samvega),
7: The Observance days (uposatha) should be rigorously kept.
8: Friendliness (metta) should be quite carefully cultivated.
9: Deep Concentration (samadhi) should be regularly trained.
10: Real Understanding should be sought and achieved (pañña).
Right behaviour (action=kamma) can be compared to having sound limbs...
Right understanding can be compared to being able to see...
If one or the other is missing, a person will be unsuccessful.
If both is fully present, the person will be fully successful.

How to train endless Pity and Compassion!
Sitting alone, in silence, each early morning, with closed eyes, one wishes:
May I radiate and meet with only infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion!
May I & all the various beings on the 31 levels of existence develop & find
only this genuine gentleness of infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion!
May I & all beings on the sense-desire, fine-material, & the formless plane
develop & encounter this tender infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion!
May I & all beings in the front, to the right, the back, the left & below as
above develop & experience caring infinite pity, sympathy, & compassion!
May I & all beings in this city, country, and universe always be fully aware
and deeply mindful of this warm infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion!
May I & all beings in this city, country, and universe examine all details &
subtle aspects of this benevolent infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion!
May I & all beings in this city, country, & universe put enthusiastic effort
in their praxis of this affectionate infinite pity, sympathy, & compassion!
May I & all beings in this city, country and universe find enraptured joy &
jubilant gladness in this fond infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion!
May I & all beings in this city, country, & universe cultivate the tranquillity
of quiet, silent, stilled, & endlessly merciful pity, sympathy, & compassion!
May I & all beings in this city, country and universe attain concentrated &
absorbed one-pointedness by this infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion!
May I & all beings in this city, country, and universe dwell in imperturbable
equanimity joined with this loving infinite pity, sympathy, and compassion...
Yeah! Print this out, dwell in each state until clear, use ~ 25-45 minutes.
Comment: All-Embracing Pity is the 2nd infinitely divine state (Appamañña)
This gradually reduces all aggressiveness, cruelty, ferocity, viciousness,
rage, inner & outer violence, and unhappiness related with these states.
Joined with the 7 links to Awakening it will later cause formless jhanas...

The 3 domains of the Noble 8-Fold Way:
A former husband of a Buddhist Nun (Bhikkhuni) once asked her:
Venerable Dhammadinna, are these 3 domains of morality (sila),
concentration (samadhi), and understanding (pañña) included in the
Noble 8-fold Way, or is it rather instead the Noble 8-fold Way
that is included & divided into these 3 core domains of the training?
The 3 domains, Visakha, are not included in the Noble 8-fold Way,
but the Noble 8-fold Way is included in those 3 domains like this:
Right speech, right action, and right livelihood: These 3 things are
included in the domain of morality...
Right effort, right awareness, and right concentration: These things
are included in the domain of concentration...
Right view and right motivation: These things are included in the
domain of understanding.

The Blessed Buddha once explained:
And how, friends, when the 4 Foundations of Awareness have been developed,
when they have been made much of, do they complete the 7 Wings to Awakening
the 7 Links to Enlightenment?
At the time, when a friend is living in contemplating the Body as a frame,
just a disgusting form, enthusiastic, clearly conscious, continually Aware of it,
so as to control all desire and aversion for bodies and forms in the world:
At that time undisrupted Awareness is aroused in this friend ....
At the time, friends, when undisrupted Awareness is aroused in such friend:
At that time the link to awakening that is Awareness is stirred up in this friend;
At that time such friend develops the link to awakening that is Awareness;
At that time the link to awakening that is Awareness comes to fulfilment of
development in this friend.
Living thus Aware, awake, mindful such curious & interested friend examines,
inquires into, bring this thing forward for Investigation, by means of insight.
At the time, friends, when such a friend, living thus aware, mindful examines,
inquires into, bring this thing forward for Investigation, by means of insight:
At that time the link to awakening that is Investigation is stirred up in a friend;
At that time the friend develops the link to awakening that is Investigation;
At that time the link to awakening that is Investigation into things comes to
fulfilment of development in this friend.
While such friend is thus examining, inquiring into, bring things into Investigation,
by means of insight, then enthusiastic & unsluggish Energy is stirred up in this friend.
At the time, friends, when unsluggish Energy is stirred up in a friend who is examining
who inquires into, who bring this thing forward for Investigation, by means of insight:
At that time the link to awakening that is Energy is stirred up in such friend;
At that time such friend develops the link to awakening that is Energy;
At that time the link to awakening that is Energy comes to fulfilment of development
in this eager & devoted friend.
When such a friend has stirred up Energy unsullied Joy arises.
At the time, friends, when unsullied Joy arises in a friend of stirred up Energy:
At that time the link to awakening that is Joy, is stirred up in such friend;
At that time the friend develops the Link to Awakening that is Joy;
At that time the link to awakening that is Joy comes to fulfilment of development
in this friend.
The body of one whose mind is in Joy, - as happy as one can be - is tranquilized,
and thought too is tranquilized. At the time when both the body of a friend
whose mind is in Joy, is tranquilized, and any thinking too is all tranquilized:
At that time the link to awakening that is Tranquillity is stirred up in such friend;
At that time the friend develops the link to awakening that is Tranquillity;
At that time the link to awakening that is Tranquillity comes to fulfilment of
development in this calmed friend.
The thought of one whose body is thus tranquil and at ease is concentrated.
At the time, when thought is concentrated in one whose body is tranquil & at ease:
At that time the link to awakening that is Concentration is stirred up in such friend;
At that time the friend develops the link to awakening that is Concentration;
At that time the link to awakening that is Concentration comes to fulfilment of
development in this focused friend.
Such noble friend is one who looks with proper care at the Thought Concentrated thus.
At the time, when a friend looks with proper care at the thought concentrated thus:
At that time the link to awakening that is Equanimity, solid even mental ballance,
is stirred up in such friend; At that time the friend develops the link to awakening
that is Equanimity; at that time the link to awakening that is Equanimity
comes to fulfilment of development in this friend.
At the time, friends, when a friend is faring along contemplating
the Feelings just as Responses, Mind just as Moods, Phenomena just as Mental States,
enthusiastic, clearly conscious of them, continually Aware of them,
so as to control the covetousness and dejection in world:
At that time the link to awakening that is Equanimity
comes to fulfilment of development in this friend.
Friends, the 4 Foundations of Awareness, when developed thus, made much of thus,
refined thus, brings to fulfilment the 7 Links in Awakening! And How, friends, when
the 7 Links have been developed, how when they are made much of, do they bring to
fulfilment: Freedom through Knowledg ?
Herein, friends, a friend develops the link to awakening that is Awareness dependent
on aloofness, dependent on detachment, dependent on ceasing, ending in relinquishment;
The friend develops the link to awakening that is Investigation into things ...
the link to awakening that is Energy...
the link to awakening that is Joy ...
the link to awakening that is Tranquillity ...
the link to awakening that is Concentration ...
the link to awakening that is Equanimity
dependent on aloofness, dependent on detachment, dependent on ceasing, culminating in
relinquishment, friends, when the 7 Links in Awakening are developed thus, are made much
of thus, are refined thus, they bring to utter fulfilment: Freedom through Knowledge .... !
Thus spoke the lord.... Delighted, these Bhikkhus rejoiced in what the Lord had said ....

Winning Calm & Serene Bliss by Breathing..!
The Blessed Buddha once said:
Bhikkhus, this sweet concentration by Awareness by Breathing, when it is
developed and cultivated, is peaceful and sublime, an ambrosial pleasant
dwelling in itself, and it disperses and quells right on the very spot all evil
detrimental mental states, whenever and wherever they arise...!
Exactly as in a hot summer month, when a cloud of dust and dirt has been
swirled up, then a sudden great & heavy rainfall makes it vanish by quelling
it on the spot, so too does this concentration by Awareness by Breathing,
when developed and cultivated often, and which is peaceful and sublime,
an ambrosial pleasant dwelling in itself, disperse, scatter, evaporate and
quell right on the spot all evil & disadvantageous mental states whenever &
wherever they arise. And how is this so? Bhikkhus, when one have gone to
the forest, or to the root of a tree, or to an empty hut, there & then one
sits down cross-legged, having straightened one's body and back, & set
up awareness around the nostrils, then just plainly aware of only that
breathing itself one breathes in, and just solely aware of only that very
breathing itself one breathes out... Feeling only the touch of air passing!
It is in exactly this way, Friends & Bhikkhus, that this fine concentration
by Awareness by Breathing is developed & cultivated so that it indeed is
peaceful and sublime, an ambrosial pleasant dwelling in itself! And it is in
this way that it disperses and quells on the spot all evil detrimental states
whenever and wherever they arise!

Breathing Meditation Offers Calm Clarity!
On the Spot!
http://What-Buddha-Said.net/drops/IV/Peaceful_and_Sublime_on_the_Spot.htm
Giving up everything, one is Calmed!
The Blessed Buddha once summarized his own mental development like this:
Fear comes from embracing violence. Looking at people quarreling I became
agitated. Seeing people floundering, like fish floundering when hauled out of
water, seeing them opposing others, made fear and consternation arise in me!
The world was without safety anywhere, in all quarters conflict tossed about.
Yet I wanted to find a safe peaceful dwelling-place for myself, I could not...
Dissatisfied, seeing opposition itself, I realized that the barb is here within,
hard to see, not out there in the world, but in here nestling deep in the mind.
Injured by this barb, one runs in all directions. Having pulled that barb out,
one neither runs, nor stands still... That relief requires purifying training:
One should be truthful, and neither mischievous, nor deceiving, rid of gossip!
One should overcome lethargy and laziness, be fully aware, and not negligent.
One should not bestow affection upon any external form, & give up all pride
over any internal form. Neither longing back for the past, nor liking any new,
one will not grieve, when something is vanishing. One should give up whatever
fascination attaching to a given object. Greed is like a great flood. Desire is
like the current. Sense objects are like the shifting tides. Sense pleasure is
like vast stretches of deep entrapping mud, which is very hard to cross over..
Not deviating from the Dhamma, crossing by that truth, the sage, a recluse,
comes to stand safe on high ground. Having given up everything, he is calmed!

Careless Attention grows Mental Hindrances!
The Blessed Buddha once said:
When one attends carelessly and irrationally then:
Greed, Lust, and Sense-desire arise, increase, and expand...
Hate, Anger and Ill-will arise, increase, and expand...
Sloth, Lethargy and Laziness arise, increase and expand...
Agitation, Restlessness and Regret arise, increase and expand...
When one attends carelessly and irrationally then:
Doubt, confusion and uncertainty arise, increase and expand...
Furthermore the Awareness link to awakening does not arise!
The Investigation link to awakening does not arise!
The Energy link to awakening does not arise!
The Joy link to awakening does not arise!
The Tranquillity link to awakening does not arise!
The Concentration link to awakening does not arise!
The Equanimity link to awakening does not arise!
And if these qualities are present in mind, then they instantly cease, when
one attends carelessly, neglectful, absent-minded, sloppy and irrationally...
However if one attends carefully and rationally, the 5 mental hindrances
do not arise and if already arisen, then they gradually fade out and cease!
Secondly, any of the 7 mental links to awakening, that has not yet arisen,
arise and is gradually completed by mental development by this repeated
reflection and meditation...

Mutual Joy cures all vicious Envy and Jealousy!
The dear companion can be the proximate cause for Mutual Joy, where one
rejoices in another being's success... One thus rejoicing in others fortune
is called a 'boon companion', for he is constantly glad: He laughs first and
speaks afterward! So he should be the first to be pervaded with gladness.
Or on seeing a dear person being happy, cheerful and glad, mutual joy can
be aroused thus: 'See this being is indeed glad! How good, how excellent!'
Just as one would be glad at seeing a dear and beloved person very happy,
exactly so does one pervade all other beings in all directions with mutual joy...
Rejoicing mutual joy can also be aroused by remembering others happiness
in the past and recollecting the elated joy aspect in this way: 'In the past he
had great wealth, a great following and he was always glad'. Or mutual joy
can be aroused by apprehending the future glad aspect of his in this way:
'In the future he will again enjoy similar success and will go about in gold
palanquins, on the backs of elephants or on horseback'. Having thus aroused
mutual joy regarding a dear person, one can then direct the very same feeling
successively towards a neutral one, and gradually towards any hostile person.
Vbh 274, Vism I 316
Comments:
Mutual joy causes Contentment! No mutual joy thus means Discontentment!
Therefore: If being generally dissatisfied, then be happy over other's success.
Secondly: Mutual joy causes all envy & jealousy to evaporate into equanimity!

Direct Experience of Development of the Noble 8-fold Way:
The Blessed Buddha once said:
What, friends, should be fully understood by direct experience?
The Five Clusters of Clinging. What five?
The cluster of clinging to form...
The cluster of clinging to feeling...
The cluster of clinging to perception...
The cluster of clinging to construction...
The cluster of clinging to consciousness...
These are the 5 things, which should be understood by direct experience!
What are the 2 things, which should be overcome & left by direct experience?
Ignorance and Craving for new Becoming... These are the 2 things, which should
be overcome, relinquished and left all behind by direct experience!
And what are the 2 things, which should be realized by direct experience?
Complete Understanding and Absolute Freedom...
These are the two things, which should be realized by direct experience!
And what are the 2 things, which should be developed by direct experience?
Calm and Insight...
These are the two things, which should be developed by direct experience.
And how does a Bhikkhu indeed do so? Here, friends, the Bhikkhu develops:
Right View, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
Right Motivation, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
Right Speech, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
Right Action, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
Right Livelihood, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
Right Effort, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
Right Awareness, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
Right Concentration, based upon seclusion, disillusion, ceasing, & culminating in release.
It is in this way that a Bhikkhu comes to fully understand all that, which should be
understood; comes to overcome, and leave behind all, which should be left behind;
comes to realize by direct experience all states that is realizable, & finally comes
to develop all the mental states, which should be developed…

How is one well equipped with the 5 Abilities?
A certain, not very well known Bhikkhu once asked Blessed Buddha:
Venerable Sir, it is said: One is well equipped with the 5 mental abilities!
In what way, Venerable Sir, is one well equipped with these five abilities?
The Blessed Buddha then pointed out:
When, Bhikkhu, a Bhikkhu thoroughly trains and fully develops:
The ability of Faith, which leads to stilling, which leads to enlightenment..
The ability of Energy, which leads to peace, which leads to awakening..
The ability of Awareness, which leads to harmony, which leads to safety..
The ability of Concentration, which leads to rest, which leads to ending..
The ability of Understanding, which leads to ease, which leads to bliss..

Disillusion Releases all Clinging and Attachment!
The Blessed Buddha once said:
What, Ananda, is the experience of Disappointment with this entire World?
Whatever there is in the mind of clinging to the world, craving for the world,
concern for the world, longing for the world, tendency & inclination towards
the world, adherence & devotion to the world, bias, all this a Bhikkhu leaves,
gives up, keeps away, above & aloof, by relinquishing & releasing detachment!
This itself is the very experience of Disappointment, Disillusion, Discontent,
Disenchantment, Dislike, Distress & Dissatisfaction with this entire World...
Mental Phenomena related with the Craving that causes Suffering:
There are four kinds of Clinging:
1: Clinging to Desire for Sensing.
2: Clinging to various Wrong Views.
3: Clinging to rituals and superstition.
4: Clinging to the concept of a a self, ego, I, me, identity, & the notion "I Am"!
All forms of clinging have to cease before any suffering is stilled...

The Reward is:
Approach to Nibbana by relinquishing all longing back to this or any world!

May 2014 become entirely Happy through the eradication of Ignorance!

The 4 Truths perform 4 Functions in a single Moment!
The Blessed Buddha once said this:
Bhikkhus, any one who sees Suffering, sees also The Cause of Suffering,
sees also The End of Suffering, sees also The Way to End all Suffering..
Any one who sees The Cause of Suffering, sees also Suffering, Ending, &
The Way. And any one who sees The End, sees also Pain, Cause, & The Way.
Consequently any one who sees The Way to End Pain, sees also Suffering,
sees also The Cause of Suffering, sees also The Ending of Suffering!
Comments on Coming Through:
Breakthrough to the Truths thus performs 4 functions at a single moment!
4 of these breakthroughs occur at each path-entry-moment to Nobility...
The effect is each time an even deeper irreversible mental purification!
When these 4 Truths are flashing forth & forever transforms one's life
and mentality, Nibbana is the single object pointed to as a possible escape!
There is only one single Exit out of this burning cinema of appearances...
A Matrix of Clinging!

Genuine Goodwill Blazes and Shines!
The blessed Buddha once said:
Among tigers, lions, leopards and bears I lived in the jungle.
None of them was frightened of me, nor did I fear any of them!
Uplifted by such universal friendliness, I enjoyed the deep forest.
Finding great solace in such sweet and silenced solitude…
Suvanna-sama Jataka 540
I am a friend of the footless,
I am a friend of all bipeds;
I am a friend of those with four feet,
I am a friend too of any many-footed!
Anguttara Nikaya IV 67
May all creatures, all breathing things;
All beings, one and all, without exception,
Experience good fortune only! :-)
May they not fall into any harm.
Anguttara Nikaya II 72
With good will for the entire cosmos,
Cultivate an infinite heart and mind:
Beaming above, below, and all around,
Unobstructed, without trace of hostility.
Sutta Nipata I
