edited April 2010 in General Banter
Anyone else love to play chess?

It's the ultimate strategy game.

Anyone want a game even?

How about a nice game of nuclear annihilation, instead?

I love chess with a passion, it's my favorite game. It's much more than a game, actually--somehow the word "game" doesn't seem quite accurate when it comes to chess.

ownerof1000oddsocks, White moves first! Therefore you might mean 1.e2-e4.

I'd have to set a board up in my room. Can't visualize. Carry on. Plus I'd be tempted to pit you against my computer hehe.

I love board games, that being said I probably suck at chess (haven't played much). I like Go better, ever heard of it? :P

I've heard of it, and I sort of know how to play it, but not completely.

I've heard it's a great game though, and some chessplayers speak of it with reverence--so there must be quite a bit of complexity and strategy to it.

Do you know how to write chess notation?

For instance, this would be my first move: 1.e4.

Do you understand that? If not, let me know and I'll do it differently.

Nope, unfortunatelly my father didn't teach me that.
I like to play it, with the board and the pions in front of me.

Yes, of course, but if we're going to play each other here, we have to have some way of telling each other what moves we're playing, right?

There are various ways of communicating moves to each other; let me know if you have one that works for you.

Fun is the best reason to play chess, Jose.

I've studied the game in some depth, and taken it to a more serious level, but chess is really the ultimate strategy-based battle of wits, and it can be a wonderful game.
