What is the typical Buddhist view on smoking cigarettes?

  • Most smokers have places they go to, to smoke. They don't always smoke around others to directly harm them. Though a lot are indifferent and will.

I have not read it all, but I will come out of the closet here. My daughters both started at 15 without every seeing someone in the family smoke. They both also have struggled with depression, cutting, etc. They have both tried to quit, get other medications, etc. but there are times they are crawling up the wall after the nicotine addiction has passed and a brain chemistry trigger has gone off. We do not understand all these functions in the brain and how emotions and chemistry and everything work together. I see kids like them losing it and doing some very dangerous stuff in my area, I would rather have them on the back porch with a smoke than getting in trouble with the law or harder drugs.

Even when they were underage and I knew the choice was walking late at night alone or sitting in the garage I wanted them safer, and I wasn't going to make them quit, I am not popular for that decision with many people and I guess I don't care, lol
