Here's a poem I wrote for a creative writing class last term, I thought some of you might enjoy it.
The Torch
Please sit, gentle child, feet weary and worn.
The firelight is calling, and calming, and warm.
Let go, sway in tune, sit back for a spell,
and examine the heart of the house where you dwell.
I see you’ve been feeling both lost and alone,
and may be afraid to show faith in the unknown.
Here you’ll find the courage to remove your disguise,
and confess to the suffering your eyes try to hide.
This flickering glow, just a mirror in space
that reaches your deepest and darkest of place,
is a phos-fire glow, just reflections of truth
whose embers remember the notions of youth.
A child saw a world where each hand in hand
spread infinite love that awakens the land.
But somewhere it was lost, somehow the dream died,
and now you’re alone in the box where you hide.
You grew every wall from handful of seeds,
your visions, collisions, emotions and deeds,
like bars on a prison these reflections of self
you wrongly attribute to everyone else.
Which keeps the past present, roots digging deep
as ghosts of the fear driven secrets you keep.
Atone for the phantoms that this light reveals,
envelops, condenses, then pierces and heals.
Your life is your garden of rich fertile earth
your mind has been tilling through death and rebirth.
From each seed to fruit, you reap what you sow
and live in the world of the memories you grow.
See how you’re lovers? Forever two twins?
Implanting each other as you entwine and spin?
Empower, detach, make each moment a pearl
that leads your soul on toward a radiant world.
Then ripen your love into a song of your own
To help them, and heal them, and guide others home.

A Recollection of Warmth
Memory recalls the embers of the fire as dazzling
and forgets the longing soothed and mesmerized
Long tongues licking in darkness
Sparks leaping on their brave voyage
