Hi all, I have alot of self-doubt. Does this count as one of the 5 hindrances? As a Buddhist, how do I cope with this? Lessen my self-doubt?

You're doing the first part which is recognizing what is present in your mind and heart.

One way to work with it is to just say hello to the self-doubt and be with it with interested curiousity. Explore exactly what self-doubt means to you and see if you experience it in your body.

I think skeptical doubt is one of the five hindrances. It may not be the same as self-doubt. I think it relates more to doubt about the teachings and the path of practice that interfere in your ability to meditate.

As you deepen your practice, you'll develop an authentic confidence. Self-doubt can occur when the roots of your connection are not strong. When winds blow (ie people who try to define your world) you can have these kinds of feelings. Sky dancer said well in just letting them be. With time, and without direct intervention, your self-doubt will recede as your roots dig deeper into what really 'is'.

    Good luck!
