A Letter about Crisis of the Earth between You and Me

A Letter about Crisis of the Earth between You and Me (Kindness, Goodness, and Benefaction)
<O:p

Note: If you disagree with any content of this letter, please still treat it kindly.

Nowadays, media as well as educational and academic research organizations consider energy conservation and carbon reduction as solutions to slow down the exhaustion of resources on earth. However, the earth has suffered from too many human activities, both industrial and economic, and it is now difficult to heal, or to avoid further hurting the earth, merely by decreasing and slowing down consuming. The crisis of the earth is directly resulted from our unkind and greedy hearts, which cause the disasters around us.
<O:p

The environment we live in depends on not only the air, water, buildings and visible spaces, but also how we interact with each other, and how we treat the environment, that is, the invisible forces, such as relationships and intentions. Human minds are gradually distorted, and in the pursuit of societal progress and economical growth, go astray and lose their natural states. We cause many damages to both the visible and invisible living environments. We believe, to improve our living environment, aside from energy conservation and carbon reduction, the most important thing is to elevate and purify the invisible human minds. This is also essential for human survival.

<O:p
Kindness, Goodness, and Benefaction” are the most important three components for us to improve our living environments. Kindness means that we fill ourselves up with love, and know how to show this love to others. Treat people around us with kindness. Goodness is to show benevolence and empathy. We should isolate ourselves from bad intentions and self-reflect at times, to make sure we do things out of good intentions. Benefaction is to perform good deeds that we are capable of doing, at any place, any time; for example, we can always help the elders, the weak, women and children cross the road. We can also always encourage our relatives and friends around us- we can try to help others, even if it is just a small matter. To perform a small good deed is like to throw a stone into a pond, the effects expand like the waves. That is to say, the power and influence of a small good deed are infinite. Such a kind-hearted attitude can generate positive strength and good-willed beliefs, and make us live peacefully. Benevolence brings good intentions and fortune for us, and helps us to avoid hurting others from vicious competing cycles. Beneficence brings possible happiness and convenience for our friends, and even the strangers we meet on the streets. We should all keep this kindness, goodness, and benefaction of heart every day, to keep away from evil deeds and disasters, and welcome good fate and good fortune. Also, doing so will remove barriers of people, and attract wealth and honor; unlimited hopes and bright futures come from inside of us.

<O:p
The world is now a global village- if you are a Catholic or a Christian, may you pray to God, to protect our mother earth; if you are a Muslim, may you pray to Allah; if you are a Buddhist, may you pray to Buddha and Bodhisattva; if you believe in Taoism, may you pray to Gods of Taoism. Please pray to the Gods you believe in, to protect the earth, and to help you become a guardian of the earth.<O:p

<O:p
Please help yourself, your friends and your family; please pay care to our society and to the earth. If you are comfortable with it, please help chant “Avalokiteshvara” for our world, beloved people, and our families. All good wills and good deeds can parinama (迴向) to “May the disasters of the world be eliminated. May all living creatures own happiness and peace.” We hope to collect the extended power of good will. Please pray for the disasters of the world to be eliminated by kindness, goodness, and benefaction of heart, so that our people can be happy and safe. The benefits to pray cannot be expressed in such limited words. No matter a public servant, an administration staff in the government, a waitress in a restaurant, a teacher, a lawyer, a senator, a doctor, a charity organization member, a volunteer, a housewife, an officer, or even still a student, we can all perform good deeds to influence the world.

Please help to forward this e-mail. Please perform good deeds to eliminate disasters of the world so that all the living creatures can go on living. All small good deeds in our daily life can parinama (迴向). Also, we can chant “Avalokiteshvara” a thousand times a day for parinama to occur (迴向). Good deeds come from within us, in our hearts. After all, we all live on the same earth; we should not let our friends, family, and our children face possible disasters. So start from now, save everyone- including ourselves.<O:p

    Greetings, BuddhaStudent!

No doubt what you say is true. It's just too bad that the power of ill will (or perhaps just mood problems) can keep people off this path of spreading kind and peaceful wishes to all creatures. Indeed, in my country right now we've got people claiming to be "proud members of an angry mob."

This matter is a perennial one: How to awaken ourselves and each other from the slumber of partiality and muddled emotions and murky reasonings.

Surely we must stop ourselves in our tracks and be constant instigators of unconventional acts of friendliness, whilst allowing ourselves no rewards for so doing. Of course, this goes against our animal nature, but it is to be hoped that from childhood we have been taught that people belonging to our families don't act in selfish or inconsiderate ways —or join "angry mobs."

Unfortunately, politics is a major obstacle to world peace and most religions tend to be all preoccupied with politics, too. As citizens, I believe the best thing we can do is insist on accurate representations of the facts by all "politicians," whether secular or clergy. We must insist that they use responsible and clear language actually reflective of the facts. We should, moreover, repudiate those in office who use their office to instill intolerance of others—regardless of whether those whom they demonize are members of some minority or of an opposing political party. Unless this is done, there can be no climate for a swelling of charitable thoughts and acts.

One would think that the press would do more in this regard, but they are apparently on the dole from the big kahunas who run things. When I see people like John Boehner spout his innuendos and his venom I wonder why no one is taking him on. The man is the worst kind of demagogue and he'd think nothing of running down protesters sitting in the streets to block a grave injustice. "The people, the people, the people," is on his lips constantly, but I'm afraid it's only "money, money, and power" on his mind, mind, mind.

BuddhaStudent, Forgive me for rambling, but it's just that I do believe that irresponsible people in positions of influence like Mr. Boehner, with their lack of good will, are a huge problem. In other words, I am agreeing with you that kindness, goodness and benefaction are sources of healing for the earth. The thing to accomplish, then, is to get people of good will into office and repudiate the wolves in sheeps clothing. People like Mr. Boehner are sloganists, who use memorable phrases for people to incorporate into their consciousness (consciously or not) and thereby hoodwink them into preferring the worse argument over the better. Of course, there are some from the past that they want to forget (such as "Obstructionists," which they have now become to more beneficial ways).

I believe that kindness, goodness and benefaction require open minds that are secure enough to let go of all the crassness of public life in order for a clean sweeping to be made. Then, and only then will a new, fair, and bright future be enabled.

Looks very much like a speech from the Dalai Lama.

    Hi, Nirvana,

I agree with everything you say. I post the letter "Crisis of the Earth between You and Me" as a promise to my master. The letter is orally delivered by him in Chinese, and translated into English for the benefit to the world.<O:p

The outer-world is in fact a reflection of our inner-world, that is, our mind. It is our life-long homework to release ourselves from anger, lust, and pain in our mind. If we do so, the outer-world will incredibly improve as well.
    <O:p
I believe myself is quite an open-minded person, but there still are things and people I disagree with and do not accept. I fight hard with the authority figures and people with faking masks all the time. But I still cannot change them. Sometimes I watch my master easily get along with all kind of people (including the types of persons I hate), and gradually change them, their views, their emotions, the way they think about themselves and the way they treat others, then I realize there are still stains or "dualism" in my heart. Everyone has their own ways to turn good, if they themselves can find the keys, or if we can help them find the keys. Anger is no use. Resentment and hostility only push people away from us, or make them more extreme. We have to pray for them and to repent for them, so that they can bring about their own Buddha in the inner-self, and to find outer-strength that leads them to goodness (Bodhi).

Hope to share this with you.

In my mind, my master is as noble as Dalai Lama. My master's speech is like the speech from Dalai Lama. And in fact, you will find them speaking about the same thing in different languages.
