Positive Karma in Action... my story.

edited May 2010 in Buddhism Basics
I normally would not link to yet another site but this is a long story and I spent all day writing it.

It's a story about a wonderful event that happened to me, and that I cannot help but think that it is truly Postivie Karma in action.

I wrote it at my blog, and you can read it at the link below. I hope you like it, and please feel free to comment here or at my site as you wish.

Thank You GuyC, the best part about my story is that I think it's in our destiny for Joe and I to work side by side to helping others even if it's in very small increments.

I'm indeed very happy and look forward to learning a lot from him.

Good luck to you and Joe and your respective lives and families.

    How's the guitar going??

Thanks NamNam, I'm amazed how deep, wise and changed Joe is. We have talked at length every day and I cannot help but be impressed and inspired by him.

It's funny he became religious as part of his journey and while he follows a form of Christianity, he is very very open minded, and 90% of what we discuss are similar concepts and ideas with just different labels.

We end up discussing and agreeing on things like Ego, Impermanence, selfless actions and much more. Amazing that we are on such parallel tracks.

I feel like we are "Carpooling" on this journey together and keep switching on who is driving for a bit.

In fact he is now my sounding board for some issues that I have communicating for my wife, and so this goes beyond a re-union. He is an anchor for me at this time.

Thanks for asking about guitar. It is simply great. Before Buddhism, it was THE focus of my life for a while but now it has scaled back and while important it has it's proper place.

I have a great teacher, and it is very important for me because it's a way for me to express myself and as you can see by my writing I have a lot to say and am very passionate, and because it's part of my Dad's legacy.

I hope you read my story after I added pictures to it if not I hope you get a chance to visit my site again as I think it adds a lot to the story.

If you are interested in classical guitar and want to talk more please feel free to PM me about it or head over to delcamp.us which is a great site for this. IT's like a mirror image of this forum but dedicated to CG.

    Peace,

    Hello Olarte,

I do love the guitar but not classical I'm afraid. I'm learning to play electric hehehe.

But as for your friend, Joe, it is wonderful that you have found him again. It's often that long lost friends can either remain the same, get worse or fortunately for you get better. He seems like a person who can teach great things and I'm sure the converse is true too :).

Enjoy the rest of your days together Olarte. Best wishes to you and your family too.

thank you NamNam, hey music is music and electric is pretty cool I played a bit back then 20+ years ago when me and Joe were growing up.

The interesting part about Joe and I is that we are both on very parallel tracks with our respective faiths.. call it Karma, Destiny or what not but for some reason we re-united at a time where we are both firmly entrenched on our respective paths with a clear direction towards the same destiny to simply be good people based on our beliefs.

thankfully we are open enough and intelligent enough to not let the semantics and vocabulary of our "different" religions get in the way and we are both finding that in the end we are both seeking\learning\practicing the same ideas of basic goodness, selflessness, destruction of our egos, recognition of the human suffering and so on.

The only conceptual difference we see is our definition\concept of a god. I choose to see Buddhism's concept of a god as simply being an internal concept in that we practice the control of our destiny within our mind and ourselves and Christianity sees this control\concept as an external being.

So we have some interesting conversations and have yet to disagree on anything to cause a wedge between us.

We grew up in the streets without supervision so we truly know each other like nobody else does and luckily we respect that and our individual beliefs.

In fact we are ordering some books by the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh which discusses just how similar Buddhism and Christianity really are.

I'm lucky that Joe is so open minded since he is very far removed from the stereotype of a bible thumping Christian who insists that His God, and His teachings are the only valid ones.

I must admit that when I stared realizing that Joe is where he is because of Christinaity I got a bit worried about this being an issue but in the end, we are so much alike that these very differences that we have in our faith will actually make it so we learn even more from each other and learn even more respect for our fellow beings around the world who don't conform to our personal views.

As I always like to say, Life can be so good, if we just let it be and are awake enough to realize it.

    Warm regards,
    Ivan
