Self-Compassion vs. Self-Esteem

I recently found this video by Kristin Neff. She's a psychologist who practices Buddhism and focuses her work on self-compassion. In the video, she brings up an interesting point about the difference between self-esteem and self-compassion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OdWeqCJGdc

Also, she has a self-compassion inventory you can take here, if you're interested. I am apparently low on feeling common humanity and self-kindness.

Very interesting view of both concepts. I wish the other parts of the lecture were up for viewing too. I'd certainly like to hear more about self-compassion from her.

Glad you found it interesting, lightwithin and GuyC! Yeah, I too wish the entire talk was online. You can read a little bit more about self-compassion at Neff's website (http://www.self-compassion.org/).

Great stuff Glow. I particularly like the fact that people who are prejudiced, tend to have high self-esteem. Class distinction and stratification fits so well with this.

What a great learning. Thank you.

This is awesome, thank you. Self-compassion is exactly my focus currently.
