meditation is needed no matter what!

edited May 2010 in Buddhism Basics
I just got insanely angry again..

you know why? because I haven't had enough meditation..or how I like to call it
"REVERSE brainwashing..."

think about it, no matter where we come from in Buddhism.
we all admit we have been brainwashed into delusion.

This is so important.

Our aversions and attractions are brainwashed into us..
or..... ego!!!!
it's polished like a deadly sword...
and yet as realizers we have to fight against this..

HOW HARD..what terrible agony this really is.

even thought i "GET IT" completely..that isn't enough...
unfortunately we all have to do a bit of WORK..

which i hate..
what advice should I give to young meditators? :

"Realize what you have to WORK ON, and do it.
If you f*** around, before you know it... you will be dying..
and wishing you didn't f*** around..."

Good advice. That's kinda like 'practice like your hair's on fire', though that sure makes it hard to concentrate.....

I like your term 'reverse brainwashing'. It's probably the best simile (is that the word, simile?) I've heard for the purpose of meditation. :)

Reverse brainwashing is a really great way to look at meditation and make it more important. Glad you wrote some stuff out here while you were angry! Helps me let go of my anger a little more!

I like that, "reverse brainwashing" :D.

My advice to young meditators is that meditation is like knowing your numbers before doing math. I see it as essential in any life, regardless of religion. I think there is a misconception among younger people that meditation is just for Buddhists, or monks, or that you have to give up your life to be able to do it. I try to advise that they just start by practicing the art of relaxation, and move forward only when they are comfortable.

But what if someone who needs help appears in front of you and for some reason your life situation changes where you cannot practice formal sitting meditation? Then what?

Correct meditation is more than formal sitting. It is mind sitting. Keeping a not-moving mind.

So when you say you got angry, I have a question for you.

What if your anger can save someone who is suffering? Then what?

A child reaches to touch the hot stove, the mother angrily screams at the child, "NO!". He will never touch the stove again. Her anger is not for herself. It is to teach the child. So anger is no problem. Only when we make "my" anger does a problem appear.
