Peace Corps in a Buddhist dominant country
Hey all, I struggled through my high school years because I felt I could be doing much more with my knowledge and abilities than the options I was presented. After close to 5 years of struggling through school I have decided to major in anthropology and foster an understanding of the compassion that can be obtained through the practice of Buddhism. After more consideration of potential scenarios that could play out after college, I decided I would like to enroll in the Peace Corps. Not only would this further my anthropological study of Asian religions, but it would help me give back to people who truly need support and help. I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience in being a Peace Corps member in Asia, or a Peace Corps member at all. If you do and would like to share your experiences, stories, advice, anything at all it would be greatly appreciated. I would love to have the opportunity to visit a country that has a predominantly Buddhist community so I can learn from people who have studied it all their lives.

This is something I deeply wish I had done when I was free to do so.
At this stage in my life it's not possible with two small children and a husband with a career but one day my friend, one day I will.
You are in the prime time of your life to experience such things.
I think your idea is a good one. I've known more than a few Peace Corps veterans, and they all found the experience very gratifying and educational. It really helps you get the big picture to go to another country and live in their shoes for a while. As for Buddhist countries, I know that Mongolia has a large Peace Corps contingent. I was there in 2005, and it is an amazing place. They are just in the process of restoring Buddhism there after 65 of Communist suppression, so it is an exciting time to be there. Just a suggestion!
