Hi. Theres a band called tool (metal band) pretty good too imo... anyways

Alot of they're lyrics ... I'd like to say that they say are about and focus on enlightenment but I've never heard them say it.. that's just what people interpret them as. They have however said that they're music requires participation.

Anyways I heard one of them one time say they majority of North Americans think they're watching a movie. Didn't expect that statement to be something I would think about alot but I found myself pondering about it.

What do you think about that?

    Aenima lyrics

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
    I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

******** three ring circus sideshow of
    Freaks

Here in this hopeless ******** hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any ******** time. Any ******** day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

    Fret for your figure and
    Fret for your latte and
    Fret for your lawsuit and
    Fret for your hairpiece and
    Fret for your prozac and
    Fret for your pilot and
    Fret for your contract and
    Fret for your car.

    It's a
******** three ring circus sideshow of
    Freaks

Here in this hopeless ******** hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any ******** time. Any ******** day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded ********.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
    I certainly hope we will
    cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

    STUPID ****, silly ****, stupid ****...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

    Learn to swim.

Mum's gonna fix it all soon.
Mum's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

    Learn to swim.

    **** L Ron Hubbard and
    **** all his clones.
    **** all these gun-toting
    Hip gangster wannabes.

    Learn to swim.

    **** retro anything.
    **** your tattoos.
    **** all you junkies and
    **** your short memory.

    Learn to swim.

    **** smiley glad-hands,
    With hidden agendas.
    **** these dysfunctional,
    Insecure actresses.

    Learn to swim.

    Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mum please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
    Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

    I can't imagine why you wouldn't
    Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it come down.
    Come down.
    Suck it down.
    Flush it down.

Admittedly, I used to listen to Tool, but the above lyrics don't strike me as particularly enlightened, especially those parts in bold.

    It's nothing new or original.
I heard Lama Surya Das say it ages ago, in either an on-line article, or one of his books, I forget which.
It's simply a way of saying we are self and Not-self... we participate in the action, but in actual fact, can step back, separate and observe....

Shows how insular they are though. I would expand that to include most of humankind...but I know an awful lot of Americans believe the universe ends at the East or West Coast.....
I have actually spoken to one who didn't know Italy was in Europe and that Paris was a capital, not a country...

    Enjoy the popcorn. :)

I did listen to Tool back in 93 or 94 while I was in high school. What I remember of the lyrics, it sounds more like the band is full of egoic critics. There is a lot of condemnation for the moviegoers, which is unnecessary. I also remember a disturbing picture of a cow doing things a cow shouldn't do.

    With warmth,

    Matt

If Tool were on iTunes, I would have less money. :D

I've been more interested in the mathematical themes in their music.
