Song stuck in your head

Sometimes when I've had a song stuck in my head all day, surprise, surprise, it's in my head while meditating even when I'm concentrating on the breath (amazing that the brain can do that).

Anyone else deal with that or have a good way to handle it?

many thanks

I have a damn word I can't get rid of:
    It's Vuvuzela.
They're more insidious than they first appear!
Try singing something else... or listen to the radio for a while... your mind should clear.....

This: http://newbuddhist.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5927 thread, dealt with the same issue. It's crazy when that happens and it can take a long time to go away.

I have found that with this type of thing, whether it is an annoying song or a thought or whatever, that will not go away. I have found it helpful to make it the object of focus. So, instead of trying to focus on the breath and being annoyed because of this dumb song, switch the focus of meditation to the song.

Give it your full attention and even sing along with it, not necessarily out loud though. Eventually your mind will get bored with the stupid song and lose interest with it and then it will just go away. Then you can go back to the breath. It is interesting to observe that wanting it to go away, causes it to persist. while inviting it to persist, causes it to go away. Very strange!:)

    That's a great answer, seeker.

I'm plagued by this problem and I'll definitely use your technique. It's very similar to other techniques I've used to good effect so it should work for me. Thanks!
