Suttra question

Greetings everyone,

I have picked up a book after buying it some time ago and wanted some feedback. It's called "A Buddhist Bible" by Dwight Goddard. It has The Diamond Suttra in it and one called The Lankavatara Suttra. The author says this is a Mahayana text.

If anyone has read it, can I get a consensus on whether or not it is a good read please? I have just started it today.

Namaste and thanks,
Raven

From what I can gather; the author has "rewritten" the sutras to be more "readable". A combination of this, and the fact that the book has been called a "bible" makes my spidey-sense tingle. But that's just me. It might work for you. :) Let us know what you think after you've read it.

    Nios.

I haven't read it, but I considered to buy it once. I decided against it because the translation is quite old. I'd look for something more contemporary. On the other hand, some of the pioneering Mahayana text translators were quite good, for example, Edward Conze.

It is a "good read" but the translations are condensed and not too accurate.
