Observing ego in dreams?

edited August 2010 in Buddhism Basics
I had a dream last night in which I was going about my ordinary business and I was observing my thoughts and ego much like in real life while I was dreaming. I figure it's a good sign because my mind is subconsciously aware of my ego and such. just curious on other buddhist's input on this. btw ive been meditating for a month and a half

In the Bön tradition of Tibet there's a practice called dream yoga, where the practitioner attempts to maintain meditative stability and awareness throughout sleeping and dreaming. (This practice is not confined only to Bön, but is used by other lineages as well.) If you're interested you can check out the book The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche.

Since you've only been meditating for a short period of time I wouldn't necessarily jump into advanced meditation techniques without someone to guide you, but it's an interesting book and a great read nonetheless. I hope you continue your meditation practice!

    Its not Bon, its Buddhism.
Modern Bon looks nothing like traditional Bon and nearly all of its practices are taken from Buddhism, including Dream Yoga.
Dream Yoga was brought to Tibet with the rest of the Buddhist teachings in the 8th century.

I should have been more clear in my post; when I wrote "other lineages" I was referring to Buddhism. The author of this particular book is a Bön practitioner so that's why I mentioned it.
