Buddhagosa, Bhikkhu Bodhi and Bhikkhu Nanamoli are three that I can think of right off the top of my head. Buddhagosa authored many of the most important commentaries; Bhikkhu Bodhi often includes a number of notes to his sutta translations that come from a variety commentaries, but mainly the commentary associated with that particular collection (each collection has its own commentary); and Bhikkhu Nanamoli translated Buddhagosa's Visuddhimagga, which is probably the most important commentary in the Theravada tradition.

    Greetings treederwright,

Do you mean the old classical commentaries (originally written in Pali and translated in recent years into English), or modern commentaries by contemporary bhikkhus and teachers?

    Metta,
    Retro. :)
