Hit a wall.

Sometimes I get a nice awareness going. After a few hours I start to get scared, because this awareness isn't the consciousness that I'm used to. Today while I was at a park with my family I almost became petrified with fear because I couldn't feel the 'security' that I'm used to.

I can't kick the habit. I need a dharma nicotine patch.

Perhaps remembering that you are opening out to the space of the buddhas and bodhisattvas and take refuge in them to help you. If you don't believe in the mystical you could look into finding some stories of bodhisatvas lives and see that many of them also encountered fear but they were able to overcome it in various ways.
