What sacrifice does practice require?

What do you need to sacrifice in Buddhist practice? What in your current way of life do you need to give up?

.....apart from "suffering".

Thank you

video games. not give up entirely but I shouldn't miss my meditation for the day due to playing them.

drinking. so that I am not under the influence during my meditation session which I do at dusk. (and dawn if I wake that early which is sometimes). I really like the light of dawn and dusk.

feeling peaceful. Sometimes when I read advanced (for me) texts such as Jewel Ornament of Liberation I get some anxiety. A couple times I was taking a course on a text and I didn't complete the assigned reading.

For me, the internet. I spend waaaaaay too much time surfing the internet without any purpose whatsoever. It's really kind of silly to spend hours in front of the computer without actually doing anything at all. Now, if I could use that time to study or meditate or something....

    That hits home.

It puts you in an interesting spot fivebells. Every post you make will be measured against that signature.

The need for approval from others ("What will such and such friend think if I tell him I'm trying to practice Buddhism?!?")

i should probably give up my habit of compulsively strangling fresh born puppies to death. other than that, my zen practice doesn't demand that much for me to sacrifice except strangling fresh born puppies to death and then feeding them to fresh born kittens. MOOHOO HAHA!!!!!! FRESH BORN PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
