has anybody seen this movie? oh man, i am so depressed right now. i seriously cried from the moment the bombs dropped in the opening scenes all the way to the ending... i hate war so much. before this movie, after this movie... all around. so much suffering, i just can't even imagine. all i want to do is hug my loved ones and cry because i am so lucky.

what do you do when you watch a movie that makes you feel this way? i don't normally feel suffering so intensely and i'm not quite sure what to do with these emotions.

I have seen it, and I too was extremely depressed afterward. I generally don't watch sad movies because there's enough to be sad about in real life :(

normally i feel this way as well, but people kept telling me that i needed to see this movie... so i gave in. i don't exactly regret it, but man, what a bummer. perhaps it would have been helpful for me if i was the type to support war, but i'm not.

i also found out last night that the movie is based upon a novel that was written because the author's sister died during the war due to malnutrition. the author wrote it as an apology to his sister.

Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka) is one of the most powerful and heartbreaking portrayals of 1945 wartime Japan I've ever seen. It almost brought me to tears, and that's hard to do.
