impermanence

For something to have come into existence, it must have changed from something it was not; until something is what it is, it is something it is not; so something is always not what it is not except for the moment when it is; thus everything either is or isn't what it is, but there is a what it is for each moment as there is a number for each hour of the day; so something can never be what it has been, and it is always what it is; this is what we call impermanence.
