Insight!

edited September 2010 in Buddhism Basics
Not sure where the right place to post this is, but I wanted to share an experience I had tonight! I had an insight into the nature of harmony tonight. I was meditating on the rhythm of the universe. The rhythm of the world. The rhythm of everything. It is a rhythm of birth and death, building and destroying, decay versus growth. It is ever flowing back and forth, up and down. The rhythm of the universe is represented in the “sine wave” used in martial arts. Up and down, up and down. It is the rhythm of chaos versus order, life versus death. It is represented in the yin-yang symbol which is often used as a symbol of harmony. This then is the TRUE nature of harmony. Not a quiet sense of peace and joy where everything is quiet. Rather harmony is the perfect balance between life and death, creation and destruction, good and evil, order and chaos. Where one recedes the other advances, while the reverse is happening further down. Harmony is not peace and quiet, harmony is found in strife, and change. The lion eats the antelope, but now there is enough food for the rest of the herd again. This is the harmony that drives the universe, the harmony of change and death. Harmony IS suffering, and suffering is harmony (or dukkha if you like). I feel that I have reached a major milestone on my path to awakening :)

Thats sounds like a nice insight. "in rhythm is quietude" tao te ching

This is when we get the burp in the church though. How is your relationship with your parents? your co-workers?, how is that thing you keep doing that does not quite fit your self-image as someone on the path to awakening? When was the last time you put your little agenda of the moment ahead of really listening to someone? etc. etc.

I'm just repeating the kind of response I've recieved when presenting such insights to other practitioners. Inspiration comes and goes. Insights come and go.
