Loss of libido

Wow, as I'm writing this, I'm thinking 'everyone is going to think this is some spammer'

But seriously, we've all seen a lot about loss of sexual desire/stamina and different ways to get it back. My question is that from an enlightenment standpoint, wouldn't the loss of sexual drive be a 'good thing'? Wouldn't that be one less thing one is craving? Or at the very least, doesn't it seem unskillful to take something to make the urge stronger?

The only thing I can really think of is if one was having relationship difficulties.

    Yes, it would.

    If you're celibate, it's a good thing.

But if you're in a relationship and the other person has sexual needs, it's a bad thing. They'll be frustrated and tension will plague your relationship.

Interesting question. Perhaps it would depend on the reason for the lack of sexual desire.

for sure. Something happened to me when I HAD to accept that me and this one person could not share what we had at present, I did not look at women in the same way or desire sex. I have not entered a relationship since and life is a lot simpler without it, I can say that with total conviction :) Dating is for chumps :p

It could also be a medical issue caused by something else that is going on in your body or mind.
I dont see this as a positive unless you are living in a monastic setting.

Regardless of whether or not the attachment for sexual activity is there, the goal is not to get rid of attachments. Because it can't be done. The goal is to reframe our attitude and our response towards our attachments. And if you don't have attachment for sexual activity, for sure there is attachment for something else ... I'm thinkin' hot fudge sundae right now.

Really? I thought the end goal was to get rid of attachments. I thought "getting rid of attachments" is basically an oversimplification of the Fourth Noble Truth

ahhh and the controversy begins! There is a ton of reasons as to why you have lost your libido (no longer attracted to your partner, depression, lack of essential vitamins, age, ED, confusion, stress, ect. ect. ect.) Best thing to do is have some bloodwork done and have a medical professional give you his advice. Also depends on your age, if you are young and want children than def there is an underlying problem if you are older and do not care for children than this could be an advantage. But go to the doctor there may be something serious there may be something not so serious.

The loss of sexual desire is an inevitable component of awakening and it is a good thing if that is the reason? :) However, that does not mean it is unskillful to temporarily cause it to arise, if it is for the benefit of your partner and not for yourself.

sure we are not trying to be rid of attachments as that is something near impossible and only fully achieved once somebody is fully awoken, but we can lessen them and manage them in a skillful manner. However, if an attachment disappears on its own accord, such as losing sex drive, I do not see any negative aspects to this at all. Obviously unless it is due to a health issue, but like I posted above, I have no desire for sexual interaction anymore, no desire for a relationship in the sense of gf/bf partner partner and it feels great. I met somebody who has managed to let me call of the search so to speak, and I feel liberated for this reason

I'm celibate now. This means I guard the gates of the five senses. IT $!@#*&@!# WORKS, JUST LIKE THE BUDDHA SAID IT WOULD. I am glad I am living this way.

    lol, this
WORKS, JUST LIKE THE BUDDHA SAID IT WOULD

reminded me of a homer simpson quote for some random reason O.o

It was a Halloween special where they have to evacuate earth and they steal krustys VIP invite for the rocket out of there. Homer is like, 'look there it is, just like the dead clown said'

Okay, random moment for the day over and done with.

I think if you are serious about being celibate, you should go and get the chop... can't exactly have sex then lol. Doesn't mean to say you will be free of the attachment though :P
