Freedom from views may be a contributing factor but I dont think it "is" nirvana.
    But, thats just my "view".

I found the title of this thread to be misleading. The talk is about removing wrong views through deep meditation; of removing suffering through the realization that (some of) our ideas are false.

'freedom from views' is a wrong view, which is a tad ironic.

(OT- I find the best way to get rid or wrong views is to read a book or have an experience that runs contrary to my viewpoint, although I may not find out about self/other, being/non-being through books and direct contact with other people.)

I see the talk as being what is left after wrong views have already been removed.

That's a great notion, Nirvana being freedom from views. It makes sense, na?

Pema Chodron teaches about the lords of materialism. Or looking in the wrong places, the story of our lives. Its the same teaching as the 8 worldly winds. Pleasure/pain, fame/infamy, praise/blame, gain loss.

There is lord of materials. Looking to material goods for security. There is lord of speach. Looking to beliefs for security. And there is lord of mind. Looking to states of mind for security.

Pema Chodron says that a definition of a buddha is a person who doesn't have any fear and doesn't look in these places for security.

I have watched this three times now, its just beutiful and wonderful, thank you for showing it.

The world would be a better place if everyone watched that before work on a Monday.

off topic a bit, but does the video play in thread for anyone? regardless of computer/OS/browser I never seem to get youtube hosted videos to play in thread. I always get 'an error occurred please try later'.

I like this attitude. I feel this way sometimes. Sometimes I get nervous cuz I think i'm so close to enlightenment. Who knows how close I am, though. Perhaps it's better to keep living the path and not think of the end goal.
