what do i do with this situation?

:p ok. just recently over the last few months(more off than on) i've been roaming round youtube looking up songs i used to listen to when i was little. i know 39 ain't old, but for some reason, looking this stuff up is not in the name of nostalgia, but i think it's to see just where i came from musically(?) mostly 50-80's country, because that's what my folks listened to. then in my teens to now, i've listened to new age, metal, irish and scottish folk and some pop, industrial, jazz, blues and punk.
where this started was through a (misguided(?) desire to dis-associate from listening to and possibly playing music. some days i want no distractions from the final goal of nibbana, and others i want to just be able to just detatch and still be able to get there.

So are you asking "Is it okay to listen to music while being a Buddhist?"

My answer is: "Yes, I don't see how it could be a distraction from practice unless you make it one."

I love music. Of course, if you feel it is time for sitting meditation or contemplation than it's probably not a good time for music, but in the rest of your day why not? Music has helped me get through a lot of hard times.

Music can be a relaxing diversion compared to the compulsion to sit at this goofy computer.-P
