A Clear Eightfold Path

Hiya

I have been trying to come up with a simple/clear account of the eightfold path that explains the essence of each aspect within the statement of each aspect. This is what I am up to so far but would appreciate some help improving it.

  1. Aim to see things as they are: impermanent, interconnected, empty and inevitably negative.
  2. Focus on your Aims, not your distractions.
  3. Be honest in all things.
  4. Treat others as you would treat yourself.
  5. Strive not to live from, or with, the suffering of others.
  6. Be dilligent with your aims.
  7. Know your mind and understand the mind of others
  8. Control your mind.

*By "others" I mean other sentient beings.

I think summaries are fairly personal, I wouldn't involve other people.

Then I wasn't asking you for your help.

    Lol, that was pretty blunt.

    :)

Just saying that threads that ask for help etc are clearly no place for naysayers...

Would remove "inevitably negative" from #1. Would include some type of reference to friendliness to #3. #4 would depend on how you are treating yourself. :)

Ok, thanks for that. What would you have instead of inevitable negativity?

This is what I have been trying to do without realising it lol. Things such as the 8 fold path or the 12 links to me need to be put into simplistic, easy to use every day accounts. It is a great idea indeed :) I would be happy with what you ahve already written personally speaking of course.

I think thedaily dhamm drop thread in advanced ideas is just great. It takes buddhist concepts and refines them down into ideas, quotations and easy to use material. The author is trule a legend in his own right :)

Sometimes, for me anyways, Right Diligence means NOT being too diligent... if that makes sense. Not going overboard. And sometimes Right Speech means remaining silent. But I like your take on the path :-)

I agree:) I think it's an important project to clarify and simplify dharma for the modern world, especially for the youth. This (to me) doesn't mean the suttras should be abandoned, at all.

The 12 links, gawd... I think they would be very hard to clarify like this...

Meh, I'm still not that happy with it...

I haven't read any of them! I shall do so now. I wish this forum had RSS feeds, it would make it even better, especially for things like that.
