Is ring rainbow an auspicious sign in Buddhism?

edited November 2010 in Buddhism Basics
I have seen ring rainbow (surronding the sun) (not normal arc rainbow).
Is it some sort of holy sign in Buddhism?
What's the meaning or symbolism?

Dependence on auspicious signs could be just one more distraction. Does it help with liberation from suffering?

Some people's devotion become strengthen after seeing such auspicious sign.

    Therefore, it's YES.

And some people see it as a sign from an evil or malevolent force, just as they do eclipses and other natural phenomena. Apparently the Aztecs thought they needed to perform blood sacrifice just to get the sun to rise every day.

All rainbows are full rings. It's just that normally you can't see the whole thing from your earth-bound perspective. Fly in an airplane with the sun behind you and clouds below you. You'll see lots of rings.

    Yes.That's the one.
And I don't mean seeing it from aeroplane. But from the ground.
    Good picture.

Auspiciousness is in the mind of the beholder. I think a good healthy bowel dump is auspicious. I'm going to make a video of myself having a good dump and post it on YouTube and call it auspicious, because it facilitates my devotion by reminding me of my connection with the earth. Just think of all the people that will become devotees of having a good dump.

I can just see it now-- The order of the empty colon.

That having been said. Up until this thread, I don't recall having seen a ring rainbow. Very nice.

So have I many times. it's merely an atmospheric phenomenon.

I have never read, seen or heard of it being mentioned as such, and I don't believe there is any demonstrable significance, other than the one created in the mind of the one who views it....
    What's the meaning or symbolism?
It means there is an atmospherically-created rainbow surrounding the sun, and interpretation is up to the superstition of others. Symbolism is lost on me, and I don't pay any attention to it.

    Pretty though, isn't it? :)
