Tipitaka Concordance

I believe this is what I'm looking for, something that has a exhaustive list of topics with sutta references next to them where they occur in the Tipitaka so I can be better at answering my own questions.

The closest thing I can find is this page of similes.

Or could somebody enlighten me on how some people seem to have a sutta reference for every issue? Surely nobody casual knows the Tipitaka that well.

I'm fairly certain that serious students of the Suttas either do have intimate knowledge
of the subject matter and can put their finger on the references they need, or they are
like me and they go to the Access To Insight website (http://www.accesstoinsight.org/) and use the search engine.

And by utilizing that search engine often enough one gets to read the Suttas often
and obtains at least a basic familiarity with this vast knowledge base.
