pros and cons game

So, without getting argumentative, without debating this topic to its demise, lets play a little game on re-birth :)

We shall give either a suggestion to why it exists and is a reality or why you believe in it, or a suggestion to why it is something ridiculous and we don't believe in it. If the person above you has made a post for re-birth, you must submit one which is against it. I have no clue how this game will go, it may wither and die, but it is only a bit of fun :p

Re-birth is a plausible concept as energy cannot be destroyed, merely passed onto something else

This conclusion does not necessarily follow from the premise.

The concept of Samsara was endemic in the lands and people of Southeast Asia at the time of Buddha and this concept (samsara) does not resonate world-wide today. However the Buddhist Dharma does.
Are the two really, essentially inseparable? I'd argue NOT.

Samsara was devoured by buddhism and interpreted to mean turning away from your experience and not seeing reality correctly leading to suffering. 4 Noble Truths.

In this very moment even in our confusion and turning away there is a sense of another possibility (wisdom) and a longing for it (compassion). This essence is indestructible and common to all experience.

Isn't this the same 'game' that has been played thousands of times before and with no inherent result?

    It's not 'energy'.
Get your terminology right, then maybe we can discuss it further. :hrm:

I was going to say that while this is true, I think calling it "re-birth" was misleading. That got me thinking about what "birth" means. And then I realized that I had never been "born" in the sense that I had always thought. So I don't know anymore.
I need to go take a walk.

I think Ben would have been a Buddhist had the dharma been known in the west back then... Despite his dalliances and his other oh-too-human foibles, one of the cooler guys in American history.
