"have your bags ready for departure"

edited November 2010 in Buddhism Basics
I will try to have my bags packed and ready for my departure..

I'm visiting right now. I shouldn't get too comfortable.
Seeing myself as NOT a guest in my own house is foolish.
We are guests everywhere. Visitors, not permanent residents.

It pains me to think of leaving my companions, The other visitors.

It pains me when they leave too.. WHY? because when I sit for too long I grow roots and they entangle with other roots, and then when it is all uprooted it causes trouble and pain.

If you are forced to leave against your will you try to come back..
This is unnatural. Visit knowing that you will outstay your welcome.
Learn as much as you can of Buddhism and directly experience as much as you can..because this will determine the quality of the ready bag..

The ready bag you will always have waiting at the door

What's all this about buggage and laggage, my Friend?

Luggage is the word used (stateside) when you buy your suitcases—empty!
    Baggage is already packed.

Don't you make any baggage, now, TheFound!

I hope I can get a good cup of coffee somewhere in the afterlife. :D

A bag also means a container as in "you want a bag for that sir?"

I really like this, TheFound. It's much better than the kind of crap I was writing when I was your age. :D

Coffee has no inherent existence :)

youre about as likely to get a good cup of coffee in you're dreams as in the next life, one of these days you're going to go to sleep and you're dream may become you're next life, personally I'm not a visitor, I'm a permanent resident, at least for this lifetime!!

    sincerely john

and to the last reply, empty bag or full bag?

honestly when you get to the level i suggest you transcend full or empty

calling something full or empty is carving the block... hold fast to the uncarved block

Rereading this reminds me of something Ajahn Lee once said:
The treasures of the world last only as long as our breathing. As soon as we die, they go to somebody else. The King of Death keeps changing our clothes — our eyes, our hair, our skin, etc. — as a way of forewarning us that we're going to be evacuated to another country. If we don't get our provisions ready, we're going to be in trouble when the evacuation order comes.
  • i said something close to an "ajahn" ? maybe i could make a career of this :D
