Hi all,

I took Refuge yesterday and was given the name Gunasara. Now at the time I was told what this means. However, in all the excitement I forgot. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks.

If it is Japanese, perhaps it means "gone to share".

Sorry... although Google is quite good, all I came up with was the same as upalabhava above: "gone to share."

Perhaps you'll need to reconnect with the monk who gave you the name for a definitive answer.

I hadn't heard of this "refuge name" thing before. Is it akin to receiving a new name when you ordain as a bhikkhu/bhikkhuni, a mark of renunciation of your worldly name and life?

    Yes.
Some sangha's do it differently but the dharma name is a pretty common practice.
