Maintaining Peace

The peace I gain from breath meditation is like none other, the results, with perserverance are just as great people have described.
However, going into everyday life and the world I fall back into the normal routine.

What are some good ways to maintain the peace that is experienced in 'being' during the day, when there are so many distractions?

I am guessing that, in time, and with patience, the peace will completely take over and become stronger. In the meantime, what are some productive things to do?

It's normal when you first start out to fall into that trap. Notice when it happens and be mindful what triggers the "cooling off" period.

Practice awareness, not only of the senses, but the emotions, and the thoughts.

Just notice things you do everyday, some mechanical things you do without thinking. Slow it all down and pay attention.

OP: It's really the insight gained in meditation that beings to "change your mind", but that takes time. Some meditation techniques are calming and have their health benefits, and others create a trend of thought (such as loving-kindness), but those are not the same deal. One "method" to remain focused during the day is to remain observant of your breath as you do in meditation. It becomes something of an anchor for your mind to remain present in every moment.

How could I ever forget that? So very true. To me it's like a given. If you don't pay attention to your words, deeds, and thoughts it's a clear sign you haven't paid enough attention to sensations, perceptions, and emotions.
