Buddhist Deists?

edited November 2010 in Buddhism Basics
What are the Buddhist Deists, such as Green Tara?

Do most buddhists worship them, or are they metaphorical?

I'm confused :(

I'm pretty darn new at this, but I don't think there are any people or things that Buddhists worship. They don't believe in God, but instead a divine consciousness that is in all things. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

    They can function as both.
Some practitioners see them and use them as methods for actualizing their own enlightened capacity through visualization and recitations practices and others see them as enlightened beings who work for the benefit of others.

I'm Theravada Buddhist - but Green Tara rocks!

She's utterly brilliant, and I want her on my netball team! She'd be my first choice!

Seriously, she is the embodiment of qualities I would like to develop in myself.
She is, in short, an example to me, and 'someone' I look up to.
But I don't believe she exists as a concrete solid entity.
She's just a representation of something worthy.
