I Am New...Any MABA Members from Chicago?

edited November 2010 in Sanghas
I am New to the forum:) I have been picking up and putting down Buddhist teaching since 1991 and have just recently started to practice.

I read and have devotional prayer that I follow along with online. I have been slightly daunted with my isolation. I am Happy that I have found your site!

    Hi Shan,

Not in Chicago, but I have been to the monastery outside St Louis. My health has been something of a barier to traveling, so I haven't been there for a while :( I get the newsletter and read Right View online when it comes out. http://rightviewonline.org/index.html

You've probably found this already but here's a link to the Chicago website http://northshoremeditation.org/

Illinois here, but unfortunately I live outside Chicagoland now, and in one of those church-on-every-corner small towns. No kidding, there's got to be 5 or 6 churches within 2-3 blocks radius of my house. Needless to say Buddhism is nonexistent here.

    Joliet Buddhist Sangha
Address: 3401 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet IL 60431 IL
    Tradition: Non-Sectarian, General Buddhist practice

Found this by using Buddhanet locator. Searched for Ottowa and got nothing. Searched for Joliet, United States, Illinois....left all the tradition stuff blank and got the above.

There were more listings for all IL here http://www.dharmaweb.org/index.php/Illinois

The Joliet sangha is listed, along with Downer's Grove and many more all over IL.

    Hope this helps, with metta,

    Steve

Unfortunately those are a bit too far to be practical for me to drive to with any regularity. Until June of last year I actually lived fairly close to Downers Grove (in fact I use to work there) but at the time had not given any thought to meeting up with a sangha (or any other group)

Ha, close, but not quite. I worked at a flower shop.
