Story of Buddha and a dragon?

edited December 2010 in Arts & Writings
I'm wondering if anyone has heard this story, or better yet, can provide a link to a fuller telling:

"...there was once a dragon who, from deep in its lair, spewed flames out of its maw and burned the sky. Several stars had already been set alight by this monster who, on top of that, had the claws of a tiger. Buddha went into his den and managed to convert the dragon."

This comes from an English translation of Les Misérables..the closest I've come in my research is of a water dragon or naga named Apalala who was also converted by the Buddha, but I'm not sure that this is the same dragon/story.
