Positive or happy songs

Hey! So...just curious if anyone knows any songs that are upbeat, positive or happy? Mainly looking for songs about life being good, or being yourself. Thanks!

Disclaimer: Eastern European influences ahead, definitely not for everybody.

Punk rock, if you don't mind it.
    Heaps of The Living End
    Gogol Bordello - Oh No
    The Go Set - Davey
Dropkick Murphys - Wicked Sensitive Crew
    Rotfront - Emigranski Raggamuffin

Those are some of the things that come to mind when I hear "upbeat, positive or happy".
  • ReHash- gorillaz
    deadbeat summer- neon indian
  • Cat Stevens who's album was in the movie Harold and Maude which is a movie about coming to terms with our predicaments. Harold is a young man obsessed, or rather his mother is obsessed with fixing him up and in a theatrical way he always fakes his death to scare away his dates. He finds Maude who drives like a maniac is fearless and fun. Its sad at the end, but overall I find it positive and in line with my values of self acceptance.
  • Almost anything by the Beach Boys or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. And then of course Beethoven's 9th Symphony. It don't get no happier than that!

Nah, punk rock is good. I'm a huge fan of dead kennedys! Anyways, The living end plays the song "Roll On" right? That's a good song. I used to listen to them back in the day. Dropkick Murphys are good. They're similar to flogging molly. Anyways...thanks for the suggestions everyone!
  • "Let it be" and "all you need is love" by the beatles.
    "energy" by apples in stereo
    "time to pretend" by mgmt

    "one day" matisyahu
  • AcousticBuddha20, yeah 'roll on' is by the the living end. 'Prisoner of society' is another one of their classics.

I'm not too familiar with prisoner of society, but 'uncle harry' is a good song. Very funny!

cheesy as hell.... but anything by the lighthouse family.
  • Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. Genesis are a little more artsy, but when those two split off they had some uplifting and happy songs. But kind of the beauty of painful situations.

    Bob Marley.

lately i've been digging Arcade Fire. specifically, the song Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

"they heard me singing and they told me to stop.
'quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock!'
these days, my life, i feel it has no purpose,
but late at night the feelings swim to the surface."

the song has a real upbeat feel about it. basically, it's about believing in yourself and your dreams when others are trying to keep you down. well, that and how the suburbs suck, lol.
  • I checked out arcade fire. They're pretty good! Saw them on SNL, and didn't like them at first, but after getting the album, they're okay. Have a kind of indie rock feel to them, rather than a techno-y feel to them.
  • Meat hooker sodomy by cannibal corpse

The most uplifting song I can think of is, "I've seen all good people" by Yes. They have a ton of albums filled with uplifting music.

Don't surround yourself with yourself, Move on back two squares
Send an instant karma to me, Initial it with loving care.

I think this song must be inspired by Buddha's wisdom even if indirectly.
  • Ooh... 'Imagine'... by needless to say who.

why did you think they would have a techno feel? if you like techno, daft punk always puts me in a good mood. off the top of my head, robots in disguise, ladytron, and miss kittin usually tend to be more upbeat as well.
  • Wonderful World- Louis Armstrong
    Make Someone Happy-
    Girl From Ipanema- Jobim
I Could have Danced All Night- Andrews
    La Bamba- Valens
Suddenly Seemore - Little Shop of Horrors, the movie
    I Can See Clearly
    Tiny Dancer- John

I have recently taken an interest in happy songs

  • Warning- these recommendations come from a much older generation member!!

I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing- The New Seekers

    Yellow Submarine- The Beatles

    Morning has Broken- Cat Stevens

    Hair- The Cowsills

    Magic Carpet Ride- Steppenwolf

Reach Out in the Darkness- Friend and Lover

One Toke Over the Line-Brewer & Shipley (If you don't mind country or "Jesus" in the chorus)

Here Comes the Sun- Richie Havens

    School's Out- Alice Cooper

    Good Morning Starshine-Oliver

You Really Got Me- The Kinks

You and Me and a Dog Named Boo- Lobo
