Looking for a Buddha quote

edited January 2011 in Buddhism Basics
I'm trying to find a quote (the source would also be great) that I heard, probably in a dharma talk I listened to a while back. I not certain that I'm remembering it correctly, but I think the gist of it was that when people say untrue things (I think about the dharma) we shouldn't attack them and don't even need to debate them, but we can show their accusations to be false simply by our correct practice.
Hopefully someone more well-read than I will recognize this and be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Sounds familiar. Perhaps you can contemplate and think about it yourself. Maybe this is what TheJourney means about looking for authority in scripture and getting caught up in words? What do you think Journey am I on the mark sort of?

There is wisdom in the idea though.

I've read that too, Valekhai. Was it in What The Buddha Taught by Walpola Sri Rahula? Have you read that book?

I'm really not the type who looks for authority in scripture, but I also don't like misquoting things. I want to make sure that I'm remembering it correctly. Maybe that is me getting caught up on words, though.

No, I haven't read it (yet), but you may be on to something. I remember that book being mentioned in a few of the talks, so they may have been referenced in the same one. I'll start looking in that direction. Thanks!
