Motivation/Ambition for everyday life?

I kind of have the same viewpoint as this guy Charles Bukowski:

"It was true that I didn’t have much ambition, but there ought to be a place for people without ambition, I mean a better place than the one usually reserved. How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so?"

I understand that I am clinging to a viewpoint or whatever. However, it's really tough for me to gain motivation to go to work or school. I understand I need to do something to provide for myself, but how in the heck does anybody have the motivation to do anything when it's all so drab and boring? I mean yeah, I've had the whole oh my god life is wonderful this is so great. And then you're back to waking up everyday for school or work and there's no motivation there.. I just don't see the point in any of this? How do you deal with the everyday grind, what motivates you?

Thanks.

  • It's not all drab and boring. You need to find something you're passionate about rather than something you hate doing. I know that's a tall order, and it's taken me half a lifetime to find it, but it's out there.

@Mountains: Finding one's passion is true to a certain extent and is the general consensus when it comes to figuring things like this out. However, in my experience, following my desires and passions have led me to almost fail out of college and have led me to cling to meaning in work, relationships and life in general which have lead me to suffering. A lot of people in the world don't even have a choice of what they get to do for a living, which begs me to ask the question: Can everything be experienced as it is?

Thank you for the response Mountains, but reflecting on what I just posted I can see how I wasn't seeing clearly. I was clinging to laziness in an effort to garner a 'good' feeling, instead of simply seeing reality objectively. Dang, our habits really catch up with us and twist us every which way...
